Too many people in our rich countries choose signal their climate virtue at the expense of poorer human beings in less fortunate countries.
    The Left’s Climate Imperialism
    Guest Blogger

". . . . A prominent form of modern slavery is climate imperialism, or eco-colonialism, wherein restrictive energy policies conceived and promoted by politicians in Western economies are forced on some of the world’s poorest. Though branded as environmentally friendly, these outlandish policies deny economic growth to those who most need it in Africa’s poorest countries.

According to the World Bank, in 2019, over 41% of the population in sub-Saharan Africa lived in extreme poverty. Poor households in Africa often lack access to necessities such as clean water, electricity, cooking fuel and health care. The region’s weak economy coupled with poor infrastructure impedes access to education and job opportunities, further exacerbating poverty.

The West’s war on fossil fuels, which is being promoted with draconian polices in developing countries, adds to the obstacles of overcoming this deprivation. . . . "

A typo above. Should be "choose to signal." My apologies for not proofreading.

Pursuit of the Green Dream Will Make Inequality a LOT Worse
    March 26, 2023/ Jane Menton
    [IMG]

    • There are different ways of looking at the issue of human inequality.

    • The modern Left obsesses about inequality as measured in dollars of income. But if one measures inequality based on quality-of-life, it quickly becomes clear that we have achieved great progress toward equality on the things that really count.

    • Much of that progress is at risk of reversal from imposition of the green dream.

Photo’s of Dicaprio are seldom happy pictures. The average working stiff with a decent job is probably far happier than most of the “rich and famous”

“Whether you’re a famous athlete, lauded performer, or an average person who enjoys doing everyday activities, we’re all human.
Despite the fame, wealth, and status, celebrities are human just like all of us, and they too can suffer from symptoms of mental health disorders.”
“Without further ado, here are ten celebrities who have opened up about their struggles with mental health.

    “Leonardo DiCaprio – OCD

Leonardo DiCaprio has been a household name in the entertainment industry for nearly 30 years. Still, it surprises many to learn that the accomplished actor frequently suffers from bouts of obsessive-compulsive disorder.

The Oscar-winning heartthrob has admitted that he often feels compelled to walk through doorways numerous times and step on sidewalk stains left by using chewing gum, though he claims he is able to keep these tendencies under control with some practice and regularity.

“I’m able to say at some point, ‘OK, you’re being ridiculous, stop stepping on every gum stain you see. You don’t need to do that. You don’t need to walk 20 feet back and put your foot on that thing. Nothing bad is going to happen,’” DiCaprio stated.”

    Michael Phelps – ADHD

“As a direct result of his battle, Phelps started The Michael Phelps Foundation, an organization that has introduced swimming to more than 15,000 children through the Boys & Girls Clubs of America and Special Olympics.”

“Kesha [Kesha Rose Sebert ] – Eating Disorder, Anxiety, & Depression”

“Zayn Malik – General Anxiety Disorder”

    “Demi Lovato – Bipolar Disorder”

“Steve Young – Social Anxiety Disorder”

“Amanda Seyfried – General Anxiety Disorder & OCD”

    “Dan Reynolds – Clinical Depression”

    “Adele – Postpartum Depression”

“Lady Gaga – PTSD, Depression, and Anxiety”

“I openly admit to having battled depression and anxiety and I think a lot of people do,” Gaga said in a 2016 interview with The Mirror. “I think it’s better when we all say: ‘Cheers!’ And ‘fess up to it.”

The model is pretty transparent when you think about it. The elite get to have theirs, but no one else will. And more, the willingness to pay off 2nd and 3rd world nation elite to ensure that those nations adopt this restrictive measure, to make energy the currency of slavery for the 21st century seems to be the goal.

Make no mistake, the illiberal democrats of this world don't intend life to be good for everyone. Just themselves.

Why would any thinking person have the slightest concern for the discontentment of America's elites?

“Our national elite is united enough to have the vices of a ruling class, but not the virtues. In particular, they are cohesive enough to be perceived as oppressive by much of the populace, but they are rarely gracious and conciliatory when needed. They know how to make enemies, but not friends.”

When Society’s Shepherds Function as a Herd
This combination of arrogance, incompetence, and malice undermines the legitimacy of elite power. A prudent ruling class would be self-aware enough to realize this vulnerability. It would be wise for them to be less culturally aggressive, economically greedy, and politically domineering, but our elites lack the coherence and self-restraint to do so.

Their unity is sufficient for them to be feared or hated, but not enough to make sound strategic decisions. Rather, they function as a herd, with individuals mostly responding to the pressure exerted by those next to them. And the internet has brought them closer together than ever; even when they are physically apart, they remain within the same milieu.”

The behavior of elites is often as "ridiculous" as DiCaprio's obsession with stepping on every gum stain, "‘OK, you’re being ridiculous, stop stepping on every gum stain you see. You don’t need to do that. You don’t need to walk 20 feet back and put your foot on that thing.", but it probably limits the amount of time he can spend on more destructive obsessions. The elites too shall pass. TG

Elites are inevitable; their legitimacy and continuity is not. Ours lack the virtue and wisdom needed for good governance and leadership. Instead of expertise, they offer incompetence, malice, and herd-like conformity to self-serving ideological fads. Hopefully, political defeat and cultural failure will force a reckoning.”

The “save the planet” elites seem to believe that third world humanity will have to continue to live in poverty and squalor forever.
Why would there be any “indigenous resistance? ;-)

“Ultimately, it may only be by considering climate change through a postcolonial lens and utilizing indigenous resistance that the damage of this new form of climate imperialism can be undone.”

Correct. They have been forced to admit bribery and corruption only because it has become too blatant to ignore.

It’s not climate change that wiped out 70% of Africa’s forest, it’s an electricity crisis
    [IMG]

    By Jo Nova

Does anyone care? 600 million Africans don’t have electricity
They burn wood for power. Forests are razed and no one even notices. As Geoff Hill says, they warm their homes and cook their food the only way they can — by chopping down forests and converting wood to charcoal, a fuel used by the Greeks and Romans. If they had coal fired power or gas plants they wouldn’t need to cut down 400 year old trees.

An area the size of Switzerland is being denuded every year, 70% of Africa’s forests are gone, but it’s as if the rest of the world barely registers it.

Solar panels don’t work under thick cloud, and can blow away in cyclones, hydro plants won’t work in droughts, but fossil fuel plants survive bad weather. Do the Greens really care about the environment, or the poor — does the ABC, CBC or the BBC?

His advice: don’t let them get away with propaganda that keeps people in poverty

When you see a newspaper article claiming that sandstorms and creeping desert are solely down to climate change, write a letter to the editor – even just a few lines – explaining that a loss of vegetation is what allows the sand to blow and the desert to grow. This is not a denial of climate change, but a call for action. We must make sure Africans have the same access to electricity as in developed countries, then there will be no need for charcoal. . . .

NETZERO is impeding progress on UN Sustainable Development Goals

“Working in global energy and development, I often hear people say, ‘Because of climate, we just can’t afford for everyone to live our lifestyles.’ That viewpoint is worse than patronizing. It’s a form of racism, and it’s creating a two-tier global energy system, with energy abundance for the rich and tiny solar lamps for Africans.” – Kenyan activist and materials scientist Rose Mutiso

“To deny the developing world access to the very infrastructure that has propelled us forward, all in the name of an uncertain future, is not environmentalism, but neocolonialism masquerading as virtue.” – Earth Scientist Matthew Wielicki
