To prevent Cyrus Vance from getting his hands on his tax return, Trump still goes all the way to the Supreme Court after losing twice in lower courts.

This process, which isn't certain to succeed, will be funded exclusively by Trump's campaign donors, who have already spent $60 million on legal fees.

They thought they were giving to help him in his re-election....

Jay Sekulow claims that there is a risk that Trump's tax returns will be made public and cause him irreparable damage....

    _______________________________________

President Donald Trump asked the Supreme Court on Tuesday to block lower court rulings that would give the Manhattan District Attorney’s office access to years of his income tax returns.

Trump’s lawyers filed an emergency application with the Supreme Court asking the court to issue a stay, or suspension, of a grand jury subpoena demanding those tax returns and other financial records from his accountants.

The request is pending the president’s plan to formally ask the high court hear his appeal of the lower court rulings that have allowed that subpoena.

If the Supreme Court agrees to hear his appeal, it will be the second time the court has taken the case, which is related to an ongoing criminal probe of the Trump Organization, the president’s company, by Manhattan DA Cyrus Vance Jr.’s office.

What’s the obsession with his tax returns?? I genuinely don’t understand why anyone would demand to see them.

If Trump paid a dollar more in taxes then he absolutely had to, I would say he needs a new accounting firm to handle it for him.

Pay the bare minimum you have to by law. It’s not rocket science people. Paying anymore then that doesn’t make you a generous person, it makes you a moron. Want to be generous with your money? Give to charity that minimizes overhead.

I would love to know exactly how much he has spent on legal fees trying to prevent the U.S. public from seeing his oft promised but never delivered tax returns. Whatever they are going to show he has been willing to spend like the maniac he is to prevent public exposure.

Sets an awful precedent glad he is still fighting it. Want to fight in the courts to see his tax returns? Show probable cause of wrongdoing NOT a political witch hunt. We all saw what 2 pages of his tax returns did the the lemming Maddow. Her and her entire staff could not figure out a two page tax summary ffs.

We've demanded tax returns from candidates since Nixon. For good reason. And no one is claiming that he should pay more in taxes than he absolutely has to. The problem is that he's likely paid less that what he owes and that his records also show evidence of bank/investor fraud . . . not to mention showing levels of debt that would easily disqualify ANY OTHER PERSON IN THIS COUNTRY from even so much as getting a security clearance. Plus there are still open questions about whether or not he, as his lawyer claims, claimed his hush payments as business expenses.

The grand jury has apparently already seen enough said cause. That's why the subpoenaed the documents. Any of us would have already had to supply our documents at this point.

that is between him and the IRS. Have they declared him a criminal yet? If not, it’s none of our business.

No. It isn't. This goes beyond the IRS and the documents the IRS has access to. It's the court's business, and the court has demanded his records. The idea that you can't subpoena records until someone is convicted is just . . . God that's hilarious. Please tell me you aren't trying to be serious.

An awful precedent to allow a grand jury to issue subpoenas?

I’m just surprised the DOJ isn’t acting as his private lawyer like they are in his rape case and his wife’s issue with her former assistant

I've noticed a weird trend lately where Trumpists try to claim that grand juries and subpoenas are now maaaaagically unconstitutional.

Mad that he's exercising his Constitutional Right? And pretty sure his donors don't care. Not that you have any evidence that such is being done.

I think tax returns should be available only to the IRS and the tax payer. Nobody should have to show them to anybody outside the IRS.

He's tried arguing extra-Constitutional "rights" to absolute immunity. That failed. How he's trying to say that the subpoenas are over-broad. That is also failing. He has no leg to stand on.

Even with a subpoena? That's absolutely insane.

You are claiming that no tax records or business records should ever be allowed to be subpoenaed by a court, no matter the level of probable cause. I'm sorry. That's insane. Obviously. This would equate to outlawing all business-related subpoenas.

He has no Constitutional right to the immunity he's claiming. He's just dog paddling.

And they still can' say what they're looking for.

Yes it would. I would be fine with a subpoena requiring a government paid audit.

It's a grand jury. They have no obligation to tell the public what they are looking for. By design. All grand juries work this way. They always have.
