From day one, Robert Mueller knew he was being tasked to find evidence of some offense to be used as ground for impeaching Donald Trump, and he was tasked to do such by the same individuals who had been trying to prevent Donald Trump from even taking office as president of the united states. Those who tasked him to investigate the matter are the same ones who did not even wait for the end of the second term of Barack Obama before making their efforts and positions known.

Robert Mueller knew early on into the investigation that there was no evidence of Donald Trump colluding with the nation of Russia to hijack the election of president of the united states to keep Hillary Clinton from winning. Yet if he came back and reported such right after discovering such, he knew his findings would be rejected by those who had already determined Donald Trump must have done something wrong. So instead he dragged the supposed "investigation" out for a period of two years, and procrastinated on reporting his findings to make it seem like he was actually doing something to unseat a duly-elected president of the united states, just as was being demanded of him.

In the end, two years after the start of the fiasco, Robert Mueller released his report and findings, detailing that no evidence of collusion existed. Instead of focusing on the matter of collusion, he instead made claim to supposed obstruction of justice but refrained from recommending impeachment or charges, and instead left the matter to congress to sort out, all the while knowing exactly where the matter would go from there.

Robert Mueller knew full well that those who have been critical of Donald Trump since before he took office, who have been calling for his impeachment since day one of his first term as president of the united states, would use his report to justify their calls for impeachment, so he gave them the option of following through instead of doing the dirty work himself. All the while he knew full well that those who have been critical of Donald Trump, and who have been calling for his impeachment, would not actually be able to use his report, or the information contained within to actually get what they want.

What Robert Mueller did was give the critics of Donald Trump just enough of a teasing of wrongdoings to make them believe their position was justified, but not enough to amount to something that they could actually use in legal proceedings without simultaneously hurting themselves in the process. He knew that those who have been calling for impeachment since day one would be anxious to use his report as grounds for proceedings, and yet they cannot actually follow through as it would hurt their chances in the next election cycle, and all but guarantee Donald Trump a second term due to the utter weakness of the supposed evidence.

In short, simple, easy to understand terms, Robert Mueller essentially spent the last two years trolling the critics of Donald Trump. He went out of his way to deliberately get their hopes up, only to disappoint them in the end by demonstrating that they had no legitimate case to base their position on.

This in a nutshell. This thing trolled us pretty good. Infuriated us all too, but trolled us. In a few years, we can look back and laugh at this thing.

Yeah it's rather obvious that Mueller is covering his own ass here so the democrats don't eat him alive for not getting anything on Trump.

I imagine his investigation into Trump was done within a couple of months but he had to show something so began his witch hunt.

He never should have been given that much power.

Basically the Mueller report is the definition of sitting on the fence and not sticking your neck out. I’m sure like you said he knew sooner than later that their wouldn’t be a smoking gun and by prolonging the investigation he would stymie Trump.

Worse than stymie Trump, he created a time vacuum in the attempt to create the obstruction case that didn't exist. This is extraordinarily foul play in the world of criminal court cases. When you combine that with the known leaks, even if Donald J. Trump were ever brought to a trial, a mistrial has a high likelihood of probability.

So impressive, so thorough, so well investigated, so intelligent, so well documented, so well written, I'm so impressed with Team Mueller. Two years, 17 lawyers/investigators, $25 million, ah such a deal. Why not do this every two years and investigate something else that didn't happen. What would Washington or Madison, or Franklin say? It would have been better to let Trump just write a 2 paragraph tweet explaining what Mueller took almost 400 pages to say or not say. And Trump would have accomplished his "report" in about 11 minutes and cost the American people nothing, just like he takes no salary. Putin must be splitting his side at our inept American government. Throw the bums out.

    Except the following is true:

So, it was a Republican who appointed Mueller, not "the same individuals who...".

Donald Trump is hated across the political spectrum, by democrat and republican alike. Especially by republicans who are republican in name only.

Who are you kidding?! Rosenstein & Mueller use their label to make believe that their prosecutions are not politically motivated. Mueller, a registered Republican, hired a team consisting of Clinton voters, contributors, and funders. His team was staffed with angry Democrats. He convened Grand Juries consisting of angry Democrats. He petitioned courts chaired by angry Democrat judges. Republicans serve and leave DC. Democrats serve and embed themselves in DC for life.
