In simplest terms, it seems silly to create energy when we have sources of almost unlimited energy available to us. We have solar, and wind, and geothermal, and hydroelectric, and wave energy, etc. all of which have potential beyond our needs. There are only two things preventing this; First, our unwillingness to change, and second, politics. Both are quite stupid reasons!
