The separation of church and state is encoded in the 1st Amendment of the Constitution thus making it part of the Law of the Land.

I'm not saying you're wrong here, just that the exact phrase does not exist in law. It was, however, interpreted by the SC that Jefferson had intended for the 1st to be a separation of church and state based on his letter to Dansbury.

For most people, religion is not a choice, it's a social mandate. A set of superstitious beliefs and values that our parents and community leaders collectively indoctrinate us into from the earliest years of our youth.

The concept of "freedom of religion" in the 1st amendment is not about protecting the freedom of individuals (children) to chose what, if any, religion to practice but about prohibiting the state from interfering with childhood indoctrination, thereby necessitating a separation of church and state. In other words, it means precisely the opposite of what it sounds like.

And that's what I meant in my OP. There is no such thing as Freedom of Religion because religion is social captivity.

Given the number of people who either change religions, abandon their indoctrinated religion, or select one from their lack of indoctrinated state, I find your premise lacking. Although I am glad you finally showed back up. Religion is more than childhood indoctrination as we clearly see by the number of people who are trying to get us, as adults, to either switch to/join their particular brand of a given religion, or to leave religion all together. Therefore, the concept remains intact on a social and civil basis. Only in limiting yourself to the children of religious parents, be they Christian, or Wiccian, or whatever, do you even have a remote chance of supporting your premise. However quite a number of children only give lip service to their parents 's religion, attending not because they choose to, but because they have to. They choose not to believe, or not to believe in the same manner. So again, the civil concept of Freedom of Religion remains intact.
