Plan to start a business next year and finally found a domain name and purchased it through mailchimp. I now need to find a third party host for email so basically I can have an account like bob@dickandjanefanclub.com. Not interested in a website yet as I am trying to fly a little under my current employer's radar as I take these baby steps. Mailchimp pretty much tries to push you into a google contract but Google is the privacy devil, so wasn't sure if anybody here had some other suggestions. Thanks.

On most web hosting companies, you can create emails by logging into your account, through the back end, and setting up the email addresses on your domain.

I don't know if you can do that with the websites hosted by Mailchimp. I never used them. But, while I was looking through their website for details, it appears that the website portion of the service has been simplified. While that enables people who are new to having a website to update their website easily, it also prevents one from doing advanced stuff like creating domain name email addresses. I would call them to find out if you can create emails with your domain.

Or, if you're looking for a free email address, then there is, of course, Gmail (which you said you don't want due to privacy issues). There's also Yahoo email. I've been told it's more anonymous than Gmail, but I tend to doubt that any post-9-11 free email account is really free from the prying eyes of our intelligence services.

You can usually also get an email address from your ISP if you want to pay for it.

I have plenty of free email accounts. I just want one that uses my new domain name. I don't mind paying for it as long as it is reasonable.

I tried, but I wasn't able to sign up for a MailChimp account to see what options are available through them to create an email account through them.

Sort of here at step 9:
Purchase a Domain in Mailchimp | Mailchimp

I see what you mean when you say they require a Gmail account.

I only have knowledge of signing up for a web hosting company, such as bluehost, that lets me sign in into cpanel which lets me create email accounts for that domain.

Sorry, I can't help you more. You could try contacting MailChimp directly to see if creating an email address using your domain is possible.

Thanks. Apparently I can transfer my domain out of mailchimp if I find someone else to hot the domain. I didn't realize the google thing until I had already bought the name through them. I am now looking for someone else to transfer the domain to other than one that forced me to use google.

Your web server will include a mail server. Nothing more for you to do. I can suggest that you choose a Linux web server. They are far more stable than Widows servers. Your hosting company will have one or more Linux operating systems. Pick one that doesn't have a lot of updates. Better stability.

Mailchimp isn't an email server. It is mass mailing program. You can have a perfectly stable and cost free mass mailing program to load onto your web server. The most popular one for Linux servers is PHP List, the one I use. The only cost to operate it could be the bandwidth involved. That is something you should check out with a prospective hosting company. I mail to around 40,000 customers every couple of weeks. My hosting company doesn't bat an eye. I use a VPS that costs me $25 per month and it uses SSD's instead of hard drives. Quick and cheap.

I've been in the e-commerce business for 26 years.
