Obama was right. The kind of mass violence experienced in America is not like in other countries: the rate of mass shootings being a prime example. I'm proud to be an American, but I feel a great deal of shame that we haven't tackled this problem. I see people blaming Obama, the healthcare system, liberals, the victims, etc., all while avoiding the fact that this kind of mass violence is unique to the USA. This doesn't mean that there aren't mass shootings in other countries, as with the recent incidents in Norway and France, but why is it that when we hear of a mass shooting somewhere, we instinctively know that it likely happen

Every country has problems, but in the case of the US, There’s a sick gun fetish. Even worse, there is a large part of the political class that protects this illness. I’ve lived overseas for a long time and have traveled quite extensively across six continents so I can see how the US differs from other countries.

Even in South Africa, which also has a serious problem with violence, the number of mass shootings doesn’t compare to the US. There’s no shortage of violence there, but you generally don’t see individuals shooting hundreds of rounds of ammo in a few minutes and killing dozens of people.

Here in France, yes there is violence, but it’s so incredibly unusual to hear of a shooting death. I can walk the streets of Paris at night and not wonder if I’m going to be held up at gunpoint or be shot just because. While I may be afraid of bad drivers, I’m not afraid of being shot.

When I lived in Baltimore, I had to stop watching the nightly death report, also known as the 11PM news. I was always on guard and wondered about crazy people with guns. I’ve never liked the idea of hunting for myself, but have never cared about people owning hunting rifles, who actually hunt.

What is disturbing to me is the easy availability of guns like the one used by the Sandy Hook killer. Why does anyone need something like that? Certainly not for hunting. And who buys Kevlar jackets outside of police, military and crime gangs?

The most important right is the right to life, and the general welfare of the public was the primary reason for creating the Constitution.

Stop trying to take away our constitution and our firearms or see how much worse things can get.

    Thanks you very much.

That is correct. That is why the People will never listen to the whining liberals who seek to deprive a man of his right to defend himself and his family.

A well armed public is a safe and free public.

Instead of whining about the weapons, lefties should learn how to use them. A little education goes a very long way.

How diverse are those countries? We could try to equal their 'diversity' and see if that works...

they said the same thing when they outlawed slavery, or gave women the right to vote, the constitution is a "living document", if you don't believe people can change it, as time goes on then you don't really believe in it do you?

We have an Amendment process for a reason and no its not a "living document" you cant just take rights away because you want to.

They actually know that, but they attempt to litigate our rights into privileges through activist judges...

It is meant to be changed through amendments as provided for within the document itself.

It is not living and breathing.

It is law which the government must obey and not simply interpret as someone sees fit.

Diversity is a weakness, not a strength, diversity increases the chances of stuff like this.

Sure, people can change the constitution like this:

Once the pigs start walking on two legs, two legs become better then four.

The pigs end up thinking any animal who walks on four legs or has wings in inferior.

The pigs all end up wearing clothes.

No animal shall sleep in a bed with sheets

No animal shall drink alcohol to excess

No animal shall kill any other animal without cause

All animals are equal, but some are more equal than others

He was dead wrong and you are misinterpreting what he said.

He did not mention rates he flat out said it does not happen in other nations.

    It has and does

I'd like to know, why is death by a firearm so much more heinous to anti-gun-nazis than death by other means?

Folks die by other means, be it intentional or unintentional, exponentially over that which involves firearms day after day, week after week, month after month.... but firearms continue to be at the forefront of debate. What is it about firearms that has so many anti-gun-nazis fixated and obsessed over them so? A firearm is the single best equalizer for one's protection against would be perps, but they seek to deny one's right to utilize such a tool for self defense. If it is lives these anti 2A folks are truly concerned about, there are numerous other agencies of death they could take up causes against.

I am a second amendment advocate.

I am not someone who thinks something should not be changed though. My fear is these type of shootings changing public opinion on guns over time. It does blow my mind that these mass shootings are becoming common in America and many second amendment advocates continue to have zero tolerance on any thing to even slow down mass shootings.

No I don't have any answers but I am open to new ideas.

You are going to be accused of fear mongering... which would be ironic.

But you are right. Mass murders of thousands to millions are the result of tyranny on an unarmed populous. The 10k or so murders a year we have here in the US involving firearms is an acceptable trade off if it thwarts mass genocide of a populous.

The USA has something unique, something they can call their own...trailer trash racists and bigots that purchase guns for their criminally bent, emotionally disturbed, uneducated racist kids.

Well, "your" firearms are making it awfully easy for innocent Americans to die.

States with fewer guns have less gun violence. Countries with fewer guns have less gun violence. Myth busted.

I am an expert marksman. A gun is an unnecessary toy, but it's a dangerous toy.

I want to protect the right of Americans. Too many are dying from gun violence -- a level not seen in any other country, because no other country has laws and ideologies that protect guns.

Oh sure - let's not mention the Bloods, the Cripps, the New Black Panthers, the cartels, M-13 and all the other Mexican street gangs....

Newsflash: trailer trash has every bit as much a right to own weapons as you or anyone else. Get used to it.

Second Amendment advocates have been consistent, much stiffer penalties for crimes committed with guns. That doesn't get liberal support because the results would look wrong. That wouldn't necessarily stop instances like this, but that is a step in the right direction. The simple reality is that if someone is willing to pay the price, no law on the books will stop them...
