In some distant future, imagine sex has become fully recreational as everyone is sterilized at or shortly after birth. Children are now exclusively created in vitro, made by government in communal child rearing facilities.

What do you think the biggest impact on society would come from this?

There would be nobody born into wealth or poverty. There would be no inheritance. No family legacy. No only childs. No big families. No women having abortions or dying of pregnancy complications. No deadbeat dads.

There would be no natural outlet for maternal or paternal instinct. Perhaps those who feel a strong need to raise kids would work in the child care facilities, but there would be no biological link to any particular child.

Would this be dystopian or utopian? Would it open a new chapter or prosperity? Would it be the end of humanity?

The bond between parents and children is too great to create a society like that. It’s one of the primary human drives.

I could see giving all men vasectomies and then requiring a licence to get it reversed.

One day humanity would be reduced to just a few million people living in a highly automated society. They would look back on the over-populated world of today in chagrin.

I think if you're on the right, it sounds like a dystopia, but if your on the left, a utopia.

Wasn't that the formula in "The Matrix"? I haven't seen it in a while so maybe not.
