    https://www.irishtimes.com/business...oms-as-million-species-face-decline-1.3885044

The report, which was released last week, estimates that anywhere from 500,000 to 1,000,000 different species are at a very significant risk of extinction within the next few decades. The cause of the current mass extinction event is human activity: from loss of habitat to overuse of pesticides to climate change.

As noted the ongoing mass extinction event is not solely the result of climate change, but it will be easy to predict that many of the same responses from deniers will be used to dismiss the findings from this study.

For those looking to hear the solutions instead of just the threat:

Aside from the global warming hoax, what's your solution? You folks don't have a viable solution to offer. Humans aren't going to sacrifice their futures and advancement to save species that aren't beneficial. Why should they?

Global Warming is not a hoax, nor is it the primary human-induced factor in the current ongoing mass extinction event.

The man-made part certainly is. Either way, not seeing any solution from you folks, just more liberal whining...

Guess we should stop mass migration from the 3rd world heavy breeders then.

Are they saying we are going into an ice age? Or getting hit with a astroid? Is a super volcano about to blow?

Because if it's the same old high co2 and higher temps then don't worry about it..

There is about 4.5billion years worth of evidence that tells us that warm temps and high co2 is fantastic for life on this planet

Another "the sky is falling" thread.

I think its funny watching Democrats run around saying, "we only got like 12 years and we're all dead" BS. It shows how void of reality and brainwashed they are.

So what? Things change. Species go extinct. Nothing remains the same forever.

Some of those on the Left have a big double standard when it comes to human races going extinct versus worrying about preserving biodiversity.

If you don't care about one I don't see why I should care about the other.

You did not bother to read the OP or the article. I am not bothering to engage such a troll post.

Read the OP again, there is a quote regarding the solution.

That's a debate for another thread. Anyway, just thought I would quickly mention it here.

Anyway, can we all agree we should be open to biological change?
Won't invasive species just increase 'diversity' in the ever changing and evolving habitat?
If one species goes extinct, who cares? It's not like different species don't have the same DNA structure they are fairly closely related to each other anyway.

It seems when we advocate "protecting the environment", what we are really saying is some forms of life are more worthy of protection than others.

For 80 year olds like yourself, maybe.

For everyone else, including your children and grandchildren, no.

What are going to happen to Brazil's children and grandchildren if they don't chop down the rainforest to create more economic opportunities?

The few who manage to get rich off the destruction of the biodiversity will live better lives, the rest of the world will suffer accordingly.

Multiple paragraphs and the only solution takes a single quote, which you of course didn't bother to post. Yeah, I'm sold, it really is total bullshit...

    World overpopulation.

The problem is not in First World English-speaking/European countries but in the Third World.

Well actually it is in the First World now, since population from the most impoverished overpopulated parts of the Third World have been spilling over into the First World.

Setting aside that I am using a 140 page report garnered from biologists across the world, what is your source?

For Progressives who care about the environment, I think they can agree there's a trade-off.

Well, which will it be Progressives? Mass immigration or saving the environment?
Which do you care about more?

If you try doing both of them at the same time, you have to admit it will be a bit counterproductive and you'll end up killing off biodiversity.

As time goes by, things get better and cleaner. In 2100, today will look like the wild west.
