"We found that the conduct of these five FBI employees brought discredit to themselves, sowed doubt about the FBI’s handling of the Midyear investigation, and impacted the reputation of the FBI. Although our review did not find documentary or testimonial evidence directly connecting the political views these employees expressed in their text messages and instant messages to the specific investigative decisions we reviewed"

"Despite the "cloud" that the text exchanges between Strzok and Page cast on the investigation, Strzok was not the sole decisionmaker in any of the investigations the inspector general examined. And in some instances prior to the July announcement, the report notes, Strzok and Page "advocated for more aggressive investigative measures in the Midyear investigation, such as the use of grand jury subpoenas and search warrants to obtain evidence."

"A long-awaited report by the Justice Department's watchdog Thursday found no indication that political bias affected decisions in the FBI's 2016 investigation into Hillary Clinton. The report undercuts Trump's argument that the FBI, acting for political reasons, let Clinton off the hook over her use of a private email server as secretary of state."

"In a response appended to the report, the FBI — led by Trump appointee Christopher Wray — said it accepted the conclusion that political bias played no role in the decision-making by the FBI in the Clinton investigation"

Certainly far from the smoking gun conservatives have been looking forward to for months now, if anything a wash, although I'm sure Trump, Fox, and the right wing demagogues will cherry pick enough to claim the undefinable "deep state" was plotting against them

What's this sole focus on bias?

There's is enough in this report to indicate that all the people running these investigations were making a huge mess as they went along without following protocols.

It seems to have been a free for all with everyone doing whatever they wanted.

So this report is telling us that it wasn't biased that screwed up the investigations but the screwups still were going on, all over the place.

That just means there was a different reason for it.

There was no finding questioning the competency of the investigation in terms of personnel errors or behavior

There certainly was in terms of not following protocol, lack of communication, hell you had Strzok pushing the Hillary investigation to the back burner so he could go after the Trump investigation which this report said was based on his bias which was so bad that the got fired from the Trump organization.

This whole thing reeks of incompetency.

Certainly doesn't sound like pushing the investigation to the back burner

That's not what the report found:

One example cited in the new report is an exchange of texts between FBI officials Peter Strzok and Lisa Page on Aug. 8, 2016. Page questioned whether Trump would become president. Strzok replied: “No. No he’s not. We’ll stop it.”

Under those circumstances, Horowitz said “we did not have confidence that Strzok’s decision to prioritize the Russia investigation over following up” on new evidence in the Clinton case “was free from bias.”

    Also concluded on page ix;

"We searched for evidence that the Weiner laptop was deliberately placed on the back-burner by others in the FBI to protect Clinton, but found no evidence in emails, text messages, instant messages, or documents that suggested an improper purpose."

    But he admitted it was.

He's not denying it was placed on a back burner he is saying he couldn't find any evidence it was done on purpose.

However he does say that he can't be confident it wasn't done because of bias, he is saying he simply doesn't know.

    Maybe or maybe not.

This gave the Hillary team ample time to destroy evidence.

Indeed. At a minimum it indicates rank incompetence. Incompetent investigators just happened to end up letting go the politician that they admitted that they wanted to become president. Hmmmmm . . . so in other words the entire investigation needs to be reopened with REAL investigators going after it this time. All those Hillary insider people issued the most bizarre ever blanket immunity for no known reason should have that immunity cancelled and they should be told, "Talk or go to prison."

It would be rather pointless at this time as most of the evidence would be destroyed by now and she would be vindicated again.

In my view, they should get her on something else, its not like there is any lack of criminal behavior from Hillary.

You don't think there were findings of competency and personnel errors? What do you call the findings burning Comey and his entire roll in this?

    Of course!

    That’s exactly what we need!

    Another investigation.

Damn why didn’t I think that he 198th investigation will surely catch a Clinton. When do we get the first Chelsea investigation? I am taking 2023 in the pool.

I think the IG got it right. Incompetence by Comey and it helped Trump tremendously. Nice little October surprise.

Her handling of the emails during the investigation needs to be investigated and her lies about having in approved. We need a grand jury to subpoena the private emails that are involved as I understand Strzok has refused to turn them over.

197th, the last one was a sham and yet produced evidence of crimes which Comey insubordinately then shut it down.
