Yes it seems....looks like no terror links to this suspect...or what the MSM is "telling" us.

Aren't they are? The thing is that no one is proposing to ban these deadly weapons because LWers enjoy their personal freedom of driving.

On a side note, information is a double-edged sword; it informs the public but also gives nutjobs ideas. The current fad among the mentally ill is to drive a large vehicle through crowds. Yet no one has proposed mental health checks for car rentals or driver's tests.

What is your news source? Google Alek Minassian and you might find something like this: https://www.usatoday.com/story/news...-van-attack-suspect-alek-minassian/544944002/
...Minassian is a traditional Armenian last name, but it is not clear what the suspect's connection, if there is one at all, might be to the former Soviet republic nestled in the mountainous Caucasus region between Asia and Europe.

Police would not comment on a possible motive and also played down a possible connection to terrorism at time when Toronto this week is hosting Group of Seven foreign and security ministers for a summit. "Based on what we have there’s nothing that has it to compromise the national security at this time," Saunders said.

Ralph Goodale, Canada's public safety minister, said there was no information warranting a change to the nation's terror threat level — set at "medium" — and that Monday's incident does "not appear to be connected in any way to national security."

Canada's Globe and Mail newspaper described Minassian as a man with no known religious or political affiliations, strong views or a history or penchant for violence. The newspaper spoke to his former high school and Seneca College classmates.

The Toronto Star newspaper quoted Joseph Pham, 25, who claimed he took a computer programming class with Minassian at Seneca College just last week.

Pham described Minassian as "socially awkward" and said he "kept to himself."

The incident conjured the memory of recent mass-casualty events where someone intentionally drove a vehicle into a crowd. Such attacks have been increasingly used by terrorists, but in other instances, the driver acted out of mental illness or simple rage.

I thought you were one of these people who didn't need evidence when it comes to russia being blamed for this or that act? Or that no evidence is needed if whether assad did those gas attacks or not? Perhaps I have you confused with someone else? But if I do not, I would of course find it a bit incoherent if you needed evidence for this, but not for other things. Incoherence in the flavor of simple hypocrisy.

Since most of these kind of attacks have been terrorist related, it isn't out of bounds for someone to guess it was terror related instead of mental illness. These guesses are generally proven to be right or wrong based upon later evidence. Nothing wrong with guessing, especially since most of these kind of attacks have been done in the interest of terror. By terrorists. Murdering others for a "cause".

For me, I will just wait on the evidence. lol But if someone asked me to guess, one would go with the most likely, based upon history of these kind of acts. I think that is just reasonable, if one wants to guess.

Why would you base your guess on the history of car attacks and not on the facts already released on the perpetrator?

PS recent car attacks have been carried out mainly by non-Muslims such as the Paris attack driving into a cafe and the Munster attack in Germany. And recent gun massacres in the US and Canada have been carried out by non-Muslims

    Seriously now?
You know that street on the waterfront in Nice / France was packed full with people like Times Square in NY on December 31 at 23:30?
Could be hard NOT to drive hundreds of people down with a truck in these circumstances ... And the assassin of Las Vegas used again which weapon on what distance? Even with an M-60 or an M-249 it would have been difficult in Las Vegas. So not a good comparison

Everyone is aware that terror groups have sent out the word for lone wolf attacks with whatever means, including vehicles. And the news has been filled with such terror related attacks. So, without enough immediate info to the contrary, it is perfectly reasonable to assume that a vehicle attack is terror related until more info is gained.

Great timing by the terrorist, eh? I'm sure others will learn from him.

Terrorists are always learning ... no matter what type of terrorist, whether Islam, Christianity, political or whatever.
You know, there were times when you could board a plane almost unchecked ... until a few idiots (pseudo-communists and PLOs) took advantage of this gap.
It is no different here ... with explosives in the West It has become very difficult to carry out attacks, so this scum is looking for new ways and means.

It is interesting, however, that it was not a Muslim here and still the same trolls wail around here as always about the evil Muslims ... and not to forget, the culprit can then only be mentally confused if not a Muslim.
Somehow all very hypocritical ... as when this neo Nazi idiot drove into a crowd in Charlottesville ... of course it was not a terrorist act, simply because it was not a Muslim, eh?

After studying it for decades, I think that groups/causes don't create nutjobs. Nutjobs are attracted to causes/groups in order to justify their feelings and desires. "Lone Wolf" Islamic attacks are not so much about Islam as it is about a nutjob drawn to Islamic Jihad in order to justify their desire to commit mass murder. Same for the Neo-Nazi in Charlottesville.

    Reasonable assumptions are made on facts currently available about the perpetrator. These known facts are;

First name: Alek - Greek background - 93% Christian
    Surname : Minassian - Armenian origin - 95% Christian
Education : graduated in Toronto in 2011 - not a refugee from Syrian civil war
Interests : admired online a Californian man who claimed rejection by women resulting in him being forced into celibacy leading him to kill 6 people
Alek Minassian : Also upset about his forced celibacy. Requested to be shot by the officer
Choice of weapon : motor vehicle. Weapon used several times recently by non-Muslims in carrying out mass attacks

Now out of those facts please indicate which of those facts point to him being an Islamic terrorist? If he is indeed Christian will you then say that this was a Christian terrorist attack?

It was a 1098 foot hypotenuse he was firing from. Well within the effective range of the weapon used.

Despite working out the math of the attack well in advance and using a bump stock to increase his rate of fire, the AR 15 lost the kill ratio to a Renault truck.

When is Europe going to fix it's truck and knife culture?

Have you guys seen THIS? I have never seen anything like it. This obviously veteran cop has balls of Titanium and big as basketballs. Jesus.

This killer wanted him to execute him. That's why he lowered the gun quickly multiple times. Wow.

Hindsight isn't foresight. The only thing known at first was the attack and the weapon. At that point, it's not unreasonable to lean towards ISIS or some other radical middle eastern religious belief.

No hindsight was involved in Cerberus's conclusion. Cerberus concluded in post 24 that it is an jihadist attack after these facts have been released. He still concludes that it is a jihadist attack and will continue to do so even if it is 100% proven not to be

Doesn't Canada have socialized health care, and psychiatric care? How could this have possibly happened in their quaint socialist burg??

"On" or supposed to be "on" but had stopped taking? A lot of the people taking the meds don't like the side effects.

Between wanting to be fair to schizophrenics and a desire to save money, we have a lot of schizophrenics who are running around without effective treatment programs.

Hmm. Then I must agree with you. The more info I read, the crazier the guy sounds....maybe cultish but not terroristic to some political end.

Ditto that. Just saw it. Most LEO's would have rightfully dropped him where he stood. I'd refer to him as Officer Awesome from here on out.

No evidence yet it was Islamist related folks. It does have very serious evidence towards being 100% nutter related. The guy was an " incel" and that is someone who is involuntarily celibate for those that don't know...and he was giving praise here just prior to another known incel idiot mass murderer who couldn't get laid just before his attack with the van.

    Sooo yeah

Yes, it is very sad. But I'm relieved it is not a terrorist attack!

Here is a short article about his mother seeking help when he was younger:

In 2009, Sona Minassian was quoted in a story in the Richmond Hill Liberal lamenting that her son, who suffered from a form of autism called Asperger syndrome, was at risk of losing access to a special program called Helpmate that assisted the teen to “work though his cognitive barriers and prepare him for the workplace.”

“My son would spend afternoons working with Helpmate. They were sensitive to his needs and now he has a job at Compugen here in town,” she said, referring to an IT company in Richmond Hill.

“He was able to take the experience provided by Helpmate and apply it. This kind of service for my son wasn’t available elsewhere. I am convinced that if we didn’t have Helpmate, my son would not have had such an opportunity.”
