More than 100 chanting 'Trans Lives Matter' protesters occupy the Oklahoma Capitol building to fight new bill that bans gender-confirming surgery for under 21s

More than 100 chanting 'Trans Lives Matter' protesters descended on Oklahoma's State Capitol building yesterday, occupying the interior rotunda, to protest against a new bill that would ban gender affirming surgery for anyone under 21.

The protesters from Oklahomans For Equality and Freedom Oklahoma started their demonstration outside the building, then moved indoors.

While it remains unclear whether their entry to the building was peaceful, videos show them inside, chanting loudly.

 

Insurrection in our time. The threat to our democracy cannot be ignored. Take the book Nancy Pelosi et al wrote and throw the book at them....

 

Making laws against trans people and drag queens are going to result in this happening more and more.

People are going to start seeing drag queens everywhere soon. Especially in states where they have passed laws against it.

Criminalizing drag shows are going to create more drag shows.

Authoritarians overplay their hand, and people protest, which IMO is also overplaying their hand. I don't think this protest will change anything, but as you say, there will probably be more of them. I don't think the trans have as much support as they think.

Arkansas, Texas, and Florida are all doing it. I'm sure there are other states.

I might even put on a dress and get in the streets if they keep at it.

These states will attract protests. Their attempts to criminalize it will cause their children to be more exposed to it than ever.

The can call it whatever they want. It's not fooling anyone.

People in these states are going to be exposed to more drag shows than they have ever been before as a direct result of these laws.

 

My guess is that they're referring to suicide rates an the idea that a lack of public acceptance leads to more suicides.

I think the "drive the gay back in the closet" campaign will spread from State govs to Federal level.

 

What's the address in doing this in front of kids?

I think that desire for kids to be involved in cake and drag and cosplay and all this other weird stuff it's probably going to sour people or the whole idea.

There were peaceful protestors on 1/6 who were convicted of serious charges. Did you support them and say "Now that's America?"

• It's unclear how many lawmakers were inside or how the group gained entry to the Capitol yesterday

 

She was the public's pretty accepting of it. People can be trans.

They're not going to see trans women as women because they aren't. If this reality causes people to stress that I'm sorry but it's not anybody else's problem.

If that's what the protest is about because all of the world is it acquiescing to their demands they are going to have a rough life.
