"Trump administration lifts ban on importing heads of hunted elephants"

    https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/po...-ban-importing-heads-hunted-elephants-n821331

"“Let’s be clear: elephants are on the list of threatened species; the global community has rallied to stem the ivory trade; and now, the U.S. government is giving American trophy hunters the green light to kill them,” Wayne Pacelle, the CEO of the Humane Society of the United States, wrote in a statement posted on his blog."

Does he realize the elephant is the GOP mascot?

What say you, should Trump of lifted this ban?

I rarely agree with many on here from the other side but I join them in opposing this lifting of the ban. This smells of Trump Jr. and Ivanka.

I am guessing this will be a short thread as don't think many will disagree on this topic

I disagree. Hunting jumbo is ultimate hunting. There is nothing like hunting something that can hit back. Once the contest is on you must finish it. Elephant hunting is not for amateurs nor for the faint of heart. Make a mistake and they are quite capable of killing you. There's simply no place to run and unlike Buffalo trying to get behind or up a tree won't help. It's also physically hard hunting. Ten miles a day in rough country is not unusual and you can easily do twice that amount.

This move on Trump's part is totally disgusting and barbaric. His sons kill for the pleasure of killing these wonderful animals. That is as low as any form of humanity can go.

Shame on Trump, Shame on America.

This is REALLY bad.......and very Trumpian.

If you like hunting and want ULTIMATE HUNTING why don't you get a few of your friends together and hunt each other like in the "Hunger Games" . Now that would be "ULTIMATE".

Given the logic for lifting the ban. No problem.

A spokesperson for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service told NBC News that the agency had “determined that the hunting and management programs for African elephants in Zimbabwe and Zambia will enhance the survival of the species in the wild.”

Legal, well-regulated sport hunting as part of a sound management program can benefit certain species by providing incentives to local communities to conserve those species and by putting much-needed revenue back into conservation,” the spokesperson said.

Sounds like the guide business in Zambabwe and Zambia has a friend in the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Track the money.

or he is just a Trump supporter that would support Trump even if he shot someone in the middle of the 5th Ave

"I could stand in the middle of 5th Avenue and shoot somebody and I wouldn't lose voters" - Trump

It's actually pretty hard. PAC animals are the worst. You really can't lung a jumbo because their lungs don't collapse. You can try to break the spine from behind or make a heart shot, but you're still in for a stern chase and he's still got enough in him to kill you. Head shot is best. Small target on a moving animal, up so close you can smell his arse. The lightest rifle you can use is a 375 H&H, though some guys will do it with a 9.3. Most are using a 458 Win. or 458 Lott in bolt action or a double in 470 Nitro or better. That takes quite a bit of skill especially if you've done ten miles in thick jess with most of it going uphill. Jumbo aren't alone either. You have to keep track of the wind and you have to make sure you know where the rest of them are because they're never alone. They're surprisingly quiet and difficult to see. When I was in the Omay two decade back they killed almost 20 people in a year.

I doubt you would last an hour on a PAC hunt. All the hills go up and you can't carry enough water.

Perhaps. But similar programs have had a tremendous positive impact on managing and supporting other species.

I believe the biggest threat to Elephants is from local residents. If there is incentive for those populations to stop their own people, I can't see how that would be a negative.

If they were legally hunted and they can prove that it was as part of the conservation efforts in these countries then what's the problem?

Yep, all of the poachers are local and the market is dedicated to the Chinese.

Would NEVER consider going on such an event. Prefer and do support wildlife conservation.

Yeah we can't have the locals taking care of their own elephants. We need to bring in big game hunters so they can get those heads out of Africa and get that ivory into foreign hands. What did Trump Jr. arrange to do a joint venture with the ChiComs and open the ivory business?

Why? The locals are not capable and a single elephant can destroy a farmer's entire crop in a night. Instead they let someone settle the issue and pay them thousands of dollars in the process.

Yep! all about those greenbucks. Guess I'll have to resign myself this is going to happen. I'll be rooting for the elephants. Wouldn't it be grand that a big game hunter got killed and when they found his body his head would be missing.

It happens. It's part of the deal. You can get killed. What would you prefer in a tribal area with developing farms. They kill the PAC's and get NOTHING or let the pro's and their clients and receive significant compensation in the process. Do tell?

I believe in letting the elephants and the locals co-habituating like they have for thousands of years. If the locals have encroached too much they will pay the price.
