Choose any that apply to the president: The very essence of leadership is that you have to have vision. You can't blow an uncertain trumpet. —Theodore Hesburgh There are those who wrap themselves in flags and blow the tinny trumpet of patriotism as a means of fooling the people. — George Galloway Leadership is an opportunity to serve. It is not a trumpet call to self-importance. — J. Donald Walters
Trump usurped July Fourth. His show in DC was not about our country's independence. It was not about Americans experiencing a joyous holiday with hot dogs, hamburgers, beer, and fireworks. This was about Donald Trump. Trump Productions provided the tanks, the military flyovers, Blue Angels, hundreds of troops, and military brass (with the exception of the military chiefs), even Air Force One. Trump even arranged for the fireworks. Of course, the star was Donald Trump and his marvelous, awe inspiring speech about our military prowess. "The future of the American future depends on the shoulders of men and women willing to defend it," the draft dodger said, although he was not one of them. Trump was front and center during a stirring rendition of the "Battle Hymn of the Republic." It was breathtaking. His adoring admirers cheered mightily at Trump's performance. Therein lies the problem. His "adoring admirers" are a minority, roughly 40% of the voting public. The other 60% will take exception to Trump's theft of July Fourth. But Trump doesn't care. It was a great show and he was the star.
Gee, wasn't the celebration I watched. I saw the CIC acknowledging the contributions of each of the services that combined to secure the liberties I enjoy and you resent. Suck it up, Bevis. You lost an election you couldn't lose and lost to someone you look down your nose at. Obama would still be reading his script from his teleprompter on why Vladimir told him to disarm and why he kneeled at Putin's feet and delivered.
