The Justice Department has barely existed for a century(IE: Over 100 years of the Republic's existence), that said I do agree with you that Trump's betraying the presumption of innocence in our system. However, I'd say they aren't political opponents(in the sense that you phrase it.) Rather, in Trump's view(and mine), this was an act of insubordination.

These acts of insubordination were as early as the inauguration, when Comey had the information pertaining to the falsehoods against President Trump and failed to fully brief the President on the details in the entire dossier.

It isn't merely criminal, I'm calling them out for lack of patriotism. Besides, the presumption of innocence wasn't given by the actors in question to Trump.

    OP

Sock it to 'em, Donald - you said you'd drain the swamp and I've been wondering when you'll make a start on it. And when you've done that, come over here and drain ours?

Yes, Trump was presumed innocent. A justified investigation took place and he was not charged with anything, let alone convicted. It is hardly insubordination to follow up on leads and evidence.

Your argument, if correct, would mean that no president could ever be investigated for criminal activity, because such an investigation would amount to insubordination.

The president should stay completely out of criminal matters. Let the DoJ deal with it, and the president should not have even the slightest involvement. That is why I say what he is doing is anti-American.

Sadly, for many politics is like supporting a football team of believing your particular religion is the only valid path.
Trying to change a Trump supporter by criticising Trump won’t work. We need to discuss with them why they voted for him in the first place because many Trump supporters had valid reasons to be pissed off with the political system. Problem is they chose the wrong cure. Trying to tell them they’re idiots isn’t going to get you anywhere.

Justified on what basis? On the basis of a conversation that the participants(Downer and Papadopolous) both dispute? On the basis of Steele's rumors?(We are told no, despite using it to get a FISA warrant). Let us be clear: It is rank and file insubordination, it was at the beginning, and it is at the close of it.

The only question is whether that insubordination was simply morally corrupt, or legally corrupt. That is the only question that AG Barr is looking at. Because mere hearsay is not leads and evidence. Not giving the full information of 'salacious and unverified' info to the President, is insubordination.

Comey had no right to come to Congress with his tail wagging begging for a special counsel.

In one sense it’s not anti-American as the US constitution gives the executive branch way too much power to drown democracy. Blaming Trump for unleashing his dictatorial instincts isn’t going to get you anywhere. The system that’s allowing him to run amok is where the criticism should land. Attacking Trump himself just feeds his monstrous ego.

At least you admit that Comey, Brennan, et al were acting politically.

That's exactly what the problem is. Our law enforcment and intelligence agencies have no business interfering in our politics.

No - I said what Trump considered to be his political opponents.

Get back to me when any of these people are actually charged with anything, let alone convicted.

I expect the IG's report to say that everyone did everything pretty much by the book. I am almost certain there will be some criticism of some people not doing things perfectly (in any organisation, people will make mistakes), but I expect they will be totally exonerated of any criminal wrongdoing.

If there was criminal activity, people should be charged, tried and (if convicted) punished. I have no problem with that. But I don't expect it.

Trump is the one who is trying to weaponise and politicise the DoJ.

I agree. Other than the manufacturing of evidence, everything was likely done by the book. It will be hard to charge those, who used that fake evidence, with anything. Even the perjury traps were probably done according to the rules.

"Trump is the one who is trying to weaponise and politicise the DoJ."

What are you seeing? I don't see any evidence of that at all. I haven't heard or read of Trump having any involvement in DOJ activities.

I want them to be deathly afraid of using government apparatuses under the color of law to target internal political opposition. This is as base as it gets. Treason to the very heart of representative democracy? No question!

    :roflol:

Talk about a disconnect to reality!

John Durham was appointed last year to get indictments & prosecute crimes uncovered by the IG investigation.

Here's a clue: Just the fact that comey & brennan are pointing fingers at each other now rather than standing behind their original claims is prima facie evidence of wrongdoing.

    "TREASON!"
Actually, Trump's hysterics to divert from the attack upon the US democratic process by a hostile, foreign power to help Trump and hurt Clinton (as uncovered by the FBI, NSA, CIA, and confirmed by the Republican-run Senate Committee on Intelligence) merely latches onto a charge already out there for quite some time.

Regarding the furtive meeting of Trump's agents with Putin's in Trump Tower:

“Even if you thought that this was not treasonous, or unpatriotic,
or bad sh!t, and I happen to think it’s all of that,
you should have called the FBI immediately.”

There goes Trump flapping in the breeze again. He obviously doesn't respect authority and for sure doesn't accept criticism.
The investigation was necessary due to suspicious behavior by Trump's surrogates and possible Russian interference in our election.

It is just one more instance of Trump's narcissism-induced delusions crapping on traditional American values, comparable to goons screeching "Lock her up!" concerning political opponents against whom no criminal indictments have ever been issued - let alone any trials or convictions.

"LOCK HER UP! LOCK HER UP! LOCK HER UP!"
Threatening critics with incarceration has been a time-honored totalitarian tradition. It is now a mainstay of Trumpery in America.

    If the situation were reversed...

Democrats would be screaming bloody murder. You couldn't even disagree with Obama without being labeled a racist... imagine if you disagreed with him AND accused him of being a Russian plant.

Considering the sweet nothings he whispered into Putins ear, it doesnt seem all that far fetched

Really excited to see where this goes.

No investigators have been jailed. Is the word getting out that it's inevitable?

I'm only asking because it looks like people are working to establish that narrative. It looks like they're trying to get out in front of events.

If any of the seditionists go to jail, will they be called political prisoners? Will they become instant heroes to the left? Will there be Che Guevara style T-shirts?
