Yes< I think that offer lasted an entire day, if that. Trump went back on it thereafter, and was still screaming $5.7 billion as of this week.

Of course, this week, he was also sending the usual pattern of self contradictory and mixed messages that he usually does when he's cornered, and he's looking for a way to pretend he won.

He did the same thing with the failure of the ACA repeal.

He did it again with the 2018 budget bill.

And he did it with Kim Jung Un, to the amusement of Putin and Xi.

Trump always starts talking out of both sides of his mouth when it's crunch time. Then he either caves, or lets the other guy have whatever he wanted (that's what he did with Kim Jung Un).
