House Blue Dog Coalition leaders Lou Correa and Stephanie Murphy will not attend …. “Congressman Correa welcomes the opportunity to talk with the President about border security, as soon as the government is reopened,” a Correa spokesman said, noting his boss is declining the invitation to the White House...

Murphey had a scheduling conflict . “I have attended meetings with the President at the White House before, but a scheduling conflict prevented me from accepting this invitation,” Murphy said in a statement. “However, I continue to believe the Senate should pass and the President should sign the bills reopening government that the House already passed. As a former national security specialist at the Pentagon, I look forward to having a meaningful, bipartisan discussion about the best way to secure our country.” ...https://www.rollcall.com/news/congress/trump-moderate-democrats-shutdown

Here's my point. If Trump is getting these kinds of responses from the Blue Dog coalition leadership to an invitation, Pelosi's control over her caucus is not cracking. Trump won't be peeling many votes away in the near future. No matter how conservative you may be, or how conservative your district, everyone knows what a schoolyard bully looks like. You just cannot hand him your lunchmoney after he grabs your shirt in the boys room unless you want him to use the same tactic every morning.

Trump has to stop grabbing shirts, bolling up his fists, and open the government. if he wants to get some of that lunch-money. Nancy Pelosi is no 98 pound weakling.

Sounds like there were moderates who accepted.

Polls show support for the wall rising, give it time.

All the while, the rest of the dems are sunning themselves down in puerto rico.

That's a huge assumption so you don't know if 5 or 20 dems are attending you only know one said no and one has a conflict.

The bottom line is that the donks have a money grab bag in Soros' $19 BILLION open-borders foundation. The party was bordering on bankruptcy (monetarily, as they've been morally bankrupt since their founding) during the last presidential cycle, and they ain't gonna do that again.

WASHINGTON — A group of rank-and-file House Democrats rejected President Donald Trump's invitation to lunch at the White House Tuesday, forcing the commander-in-chief to discuss his proposed border wall and the ongoing government shutdown with nine members of the GOP minority.

"Today, the president offered both Democrats and Republicans the chance to meet for lunch at the White House. Unfortunately, no Democrats will attend," White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said in a statement issued about 45 minutes before the meeting was scheduled to begin.

I hear they kind of wanted to go, but none of them like Big Macs.

    See post #8.

The answer is "zero." So there goes that far fetched plan of trying to snipe moderate democrats.

Now it's time to watch them try and snipe freshmen democrats.

    Zero moderates accepted.

Support for the wall has not budged in the last month.

And Puerto Rico is still recovering from an actual crisis.

Dems are refusing to discuss a deal to reopen the government. Duly noted.

With "moderates" like these Pelosi's lackeys, who needs progressives. Duh

Trump refuses to budge even one penny from his demand of 5.7 billion for the wall before opening the government.

In exchange for what should he budge?

Oh, we don't know that, because the Dems offer nothing and as per the OP refuse to meet, have a free lunch and negotiate.

Make no mistake, the Dems are sabotaging the negotiations, the OP is quite clear.

We don't pay to release hostages. It just leads to more hostages.

Actually Obama paid Iran billions in cash to release hostages.

You libs do routinely pay off terrorists and kidnappers and you are the ones who today keep a million Americans hostage by refusing to negotiate the end of the shutdown.

You understand that it's the dems who sabotage shutdown negotiations, don't you? Read the OP again if you don't.

Trump rejected a Democrat led proposal to open the government. Trump rejected a bipartisan led proposal to open the government. Trump rejected a Republican led proposal to open the government.

Trump did not invite these individuals to lunch in order to negotiate. He invited rank and file members in order to undercut the negotiating position of the Democrats.

I assume some will eventually attend. I definitely want some of them to show in case something develops. What matters here, is that the leadership of the coalition is not. Send in some junior varsity players instead. It may help them to get their free-throw percentage up and gives their parents a chance to see them play, and does no harm.

I have always believed that Dem leadership should allow Dems in complicated purple or red states, as much freedom as possible, to improve their optics and neuter attack ads. Draw the line when you absolutely have to, and only on votes that really matter.

At present, even the JV players refuse to dress down and play.

So we agree, the Dems offered absolutely nothing in order to resolve the stalemate and open the government and are still refusing to even sit at the negotiating table as the OP correctly demonstrates.

Figures... and thanks for confirming my point to a tee.

PS just in case you're still confused, repeating demands and negotiating/compromising are 2 different things entirely.
