Trump lives in world all his own when it comes to North Korea. Nothing more is needed to prove that statement than Trump's own tweet on North Korea.

    Donald J. Trump @realDonaldTrump

North Korea, under the leadership of Kim Jong Un, will become a great Economic Powerhouse. He may surprise some but he won’t surprise me, because I have gotten to know him & fully understand how capable he is. North Korea will become a different kind of Rocket - an Economic one!

    4:50 PM - Feb 8, 2019

Once again, he is not speaking as the President of the United States. He is speaking as a politician addressing his fan base because they are the only ones gullible enough to believe this nonsense.

Trump increased Kim Jong Un's stature in the world by meeting him in Singapore in June 2018. Virtually nothing was accomplished other than Trump doing exactly what the Kim regime has wanted for decades, a one-on-one meeting with the American President.

Trump says there has been "tremendous progress" stemming from that meeting, and Pompeo echoes him. Neither explains what that progress is beyond the fact that North Korea no longer feels it is necessary to test their missiles and we got some 66 year old bones back.

Neither represents real progress. Real progress are steps taken toward denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula. The two sides cannot even agree on what that means.

As further proof that Trump is unable to face reality, he declared the meeting a success, saying there was “no longer a Nuclear threat from North Korea.”

But the bones and the lack of testing has enticed Trump to enhance Kim's stature again, meeting with him later this month in Hanoi.

Trump insists on making himself the lead diplomat. Trump insists on meeting with Kim before preliminary agreements have been made. Despite the failure of the Singapore summit, the narcissistic President thinks the power of his personality will lead to progress on denuclearization.

Or, Trump wants to take the heat off from the Mueller probe. He feels the net closing in on him and he foolishly does exactly what the enemy wants him to do, thinking Americans will forget all about Mueller.

That won't happen, but it says a lot about Trump that he thinks it will.

It says a lot about Trump that he will give succor to the enemy to enable a whimsical political goal.

So basically Trump is in the same exact spot Obama was in regards to NK yet Trump is a failure somehow?

Obama never traveled to the other side of the planet to meet with the communist dictator of North Korea. You must have missed it. That is what I am talking about.

It is hard to accept that an American President can make a statement like that. North Korea is the enemy. She provides an existential threat to the U.S., and Trump is praising the leadership of the communist dictator.

    This is surreal.

No more missiles flying is a good thing, and actually just talking instead of sanctions is also a good thing.

The thing about NK that most don't understand is that the Korean peninsula really got a bum deal. They were bystanders during the pacific war until Japan decided to turn it into a Puppet state. After WW2, instead of removing the Japanese from Korea, we divided the country into two, giving half to the soviets (north) and keeping half (south) for ourselves. That's a bad deal no matter how you look at it, and they're rightfully angry with us. The Korean war was simply arguing with the soviets and china over how to maintain that bum deal, and the Koreans found themselves in a proxy war between three military powers. The armistice forced a stalemate that NK and probably SK were never very happy with.

Understanding that it's not just "North Korean communism Bad! South Korean capitalism Good!" is what has been needed for quite some time now. So what's the best way to undo the damage that has been caused? By the eventual opening up of NK to the rest of the world. They can keep their Communism, but right now it would be an incredible outcome if Trump could pull a Nixon and open the country up to the rest of the world.

I don't care but to be accurate, South Korea is doing just fine. North is not.
The Japanese are still there? What are you talking about?
As compared to continuing the war?
Yeah, NK became a dictatorship and wants SK to be part of it also. THAT sounds like a bum deal.
Yep, that was Nixon's best foreign policy move but explain to me how that worked out better than say.....NAFTA.

    Which affects what again exactly?

Just another case of a leftie not actually having a problem with his results, they just don't like Trump the person.

    Sad.

As for your questions, what we have here is a failure to communicate.

Just like Obama had no results.

Gotcha, he was just as successful as Obama was with NK.

Well more actually because they aren't threatening our destruction like they did under Obama.

Oh, right.....but of course they still have the ability to cause problems. Obama (and those before) sanctioned them to the dark ages (literally). Trump will probably lift them in Hanoi.

And if I recall, they improved their nuclear program under those sanctions didn't they?

    Now they are dismantling them.

    So who wins again?

Asking questions doesn't do that. You're not Socrates, and I don't play the stupid question game. You'll just have to muscle your way through a proper rebuttal without my help.

Yeah, because we all know peace agreements are reached by not talking to your enemy. Your intuition for diplomacy is beyond reproach.
