There is a substantial difference in collecting taxes to share expenses and utilizing taxes as a mechanism to redistribute wealth or funding individuals interests with other people's money.

Those that advocate for this type of policy ought to stop being weak about it, man up, and just take the means of production rather than pilfering it through taxation and pretending it's something different.

You can increase taxes all you want but only a fraction of it is going to trickle down to those whom the taxes were allegedly for.
Most of it's going to get sucked up by a giant bureaucracy and administrative costs, and of course plenty of inefficient waste, because those making the decisions were clueless about the most effective way to utilize the money.

This isn't inherently an argument against all degrees of socialism but it's something that needs to be considered in an honest conversation.
