I wonder sometimes about this SS Trust fund. Did someone say it holds US Treasuries? So from what group of people does the money come from to buy these treasuries? From what group will the money come from to pay off these treasuries? The same group that bought them in the first place? <scratches head in confusion>

This is what happens when people don't think. No politician with half a brain would publicly advocate killing social security. It would be political suicide. Aside from that there are obviously avenues that can be used to make sure social security is funded despite tax cuts. But like I have said previously emotion is stronger than facts. So, saying social security can still be funded and here is how will always lose out to "Trump wants to end social security". Even though he never said that.

The law which creates an indirect link from payroll taxes to Social Security is that the Congress must hand over to the SSA the amount collected in payroll taxes.What is not needed by SSA for the current year is credited to them in the form of Treasury Bonds which makes up the scam they call a "Trust Fund." It's not cash or savings or investment. What happens when you cash a Treasury Bond? The government gives you cash from it's current funds. The same happens with Social Security. What the government is essentially doing is giving Social Security a bunch of checks to cash when it needs the money. There's nothing, however, that stops the Congress from simply budgeting the money for SS as it does for everything else, should the Trust Fund dry up and payroll taxes not be enough (or non-existent.) They just want to create the usual division by selling ti as underfunded "insurance."
