Trump said corps can deny birth control to be covered under insurance plans

first republicans go after abortion, then birth control

The irony that Repubs get upset when Dems try to force things on everyone else yet they have no problem doing it.

When you purchase Health insurance policy, the policy states what is and is not covered. It is a legal contract which Dirty Donald cannot change at his every whim.

Corporations who provide healthcare for their employees have absolute control over what those plans cover and don't cover simply by opting for the cheapest coverage and the highest deductible. That is where HSAs come in and abortions could eventually become an out of pocket expense and birth control as well. I think this makes sense in that it would not force anybody to unwillingly pay for those things and that they should have always been an uncovered elective expense.

Can anyone explain to me why there would be an issue with coverage for birth control? I'm not talking abortion - I'm talking contraceptives.

A corporation does not have absolute control over what healthcare plans cover. A corporation can't, for examples, remove colonoscopy, mammogram, annual checkup, etc from being covered preventive care services. A corporation can decide what copays and deductibles they want for any plans they offer but in no way have ABSOLUTE control over what those plan cover.

They cannot make arbitrary deletions to items which were covered when the customer signed the contract agreeing to pay the premium based on the coverages as offered. A deletion of covered services should result in a PREMIUM decrease.

Many plans now are tiered and an employer can opt for the cheapest tier with very high deductibles and offer nothing else. Many of these bargain plans exclude elective procedures and contraception. This is what happens when the government gets involved (ACA) in something they know nothing about. There are plans out there that are so pared down that they're practically worthless, carry high deductibles and make it necessary for the insured to put additional money in an HSA. There are plans that do not cover long term care so if you find yourself with a life threatening disease prepare for bankruptcy.

Contraceptives are cheap but covering them drives up the cost of everyones healthcare.

What are you talking about? Companies have always been able to offer different plan levels, that is nothing new. ACA didn't invent this.
Health insurance companies have ALWAYS been able to offer bargain plans. Except now, there is a set minimum that has to be offered due to ACA. Meaning preventive care is now covered in all plans, lifetime and annual limits have been eliminated, Mental and behavioral health treatment, Lab tests, birth control, etc.
Which plans are you referring to that "exclude elective procedures and contraception"?

The real question is what does this do for the "jobs President"? You really think this action will create more jobs? I think not. Not to mention it discriminates completely along gender lines.

However, seeing that the earliest this could actually be in effect would be January 2021, I'm sure Biden would issue an executive order to reverse. I think a lot of insurance companies will drag their feet on this one until after the election anyway.

And BTW, should this idiotic move go forward, there will be no significant decrease in premiums because of this.

How much does covering contraception increase the base rate used to calculate premiums?

What state do you live in? The ACA isn't universal every state still regulates health insurance and BTW the ACA is falling apart and has never fully implemented they've been making it up as they go.

Dodging my questions duly noted. ACA is in fact universal in regards to minimum things to be covered, as in preventive care, mammo screenings, colonoscopy, etc.
