People can not be sued for libel based on comments made on a forum used to express OPINIONS. There has to be some sort of damage done to the person claiming libel. The website itself is not responsible for the opinions expressed on their forum.

 

People get sued for libelous posts on blogs and social media quite often. Had US Conservative stated that he THOUGHT Clinton was a rapist, that would be considered opinion - but he stated it as a definitive fact - therefor he is open to libel suits.

 

Prove it....provide a link. Did the courts allow the suit? Were there damages? What were the outcome of the suits?

Your statements are open to the public and it is searchable by the public. Therefor you just made a potentially libelous statement in public. You did not qualify it with "I think" or "He has been accused" - you made a definitive statement as if it were fact.

Statement accusing someone of a CRIME are subject to different criteria. They are considered to have inherent damage, so damage does not have to be proven.

 

Libel does not apply here since there is a credible source for the claim. Look how many here claimed Kavanaugh was a rapist with no proof whatsoever.

Libel does apply if the statement is not preceded by "accused" or "I think". That is why news sources are very careful to add "accused" in their stories, especially when it comes to possible criminal activity. Credibility of witnesses does not prove guilt, only a court can do that.

 

Statements claiming FACT of CRIMINAL activity are considered INHERENTLY damaging in civil cases. Knowing the lengths the Clintons are willing to go to to protect themselves, I wouldn't want to test them.
