It is difficult to accept an American President speaking as Trump did to the General Assembly. It is easy to picture a militaristic dictator from a third world country making such a bombastic, threatening speech. Such was the nature of Trump's speech before the U. N.

Perhaps Trump forgot where he was. The presentation was eerily similar to one his campaign speeches before his adoring admirers at pep rally.

He used a pejorative to describe a nation's ruler, "rocket man." Trump apparently thought it was appropriate to use barroom language to describe Kim Jong Un.

Trump declared that if the circumstances warranted it by his measure of the circumstances, then he would destroy another nation. “The United States has great strength and patience, but if it is forced to defend itself or its allies, we will have no choice but to totally destroy North Korea. Rocket Man is on a suicide mission for himself and for his regime.”

Although six other nations and the IAEA support the Iranian nuclear deal, Trump considers the deal a personal affront and he used the General Assembly as a soap box to express his grievance. “The Iran deal was one of the worst and most one-sided transactions the United States has ever entered into. Frankly, that deal is an embarrassment to the United States, and I don’t think you’ve heard the last of it, believe me.”

He lectured the world leaders on being bystanders to the activities of rogue nations. He then asserted that some parts of the world “are going to hell.”

From the dais of an organization meant to bring nations together, Trump tried to explain his "America First" policy to the leaders of other countries. He argued that nationalism can be the foundation for strong nations to join common causes. He repeatedly used the word sovereignty, blissfully unaware that nationalism and words like sovereignty started the major wars of the 20th Century, and the U.N. was formed to prevent such wars from ever happening again. He took a page from one of his campaign speeches and it was not well received by the audience.

Before the United Nations, Trump urged other leaders to always "put your countries first."

To say he was out of step with his audience is an understatement. To say he acted more like a barroom brawler than an American President would be an accurate statement.

No doubt his adoring admirers loved every word of the speech.

Trump will pitch to his extremist core-base even if it blows up the world.

Trump is, at root, a provocateur. He likes causing controversy. He likes stirring the pot. He likes freaking out the squares. And, he likes using his 30+ million followers on Twitter as a sort of focus group for his lines. "Rocket Man" got a big response -- so he wanted to use it again!

There's no question that someone within his speech writing team (or his broader foreign policy circle) made clear to Trump that using the words "Rocket Man" would likely dominate the coverage of the speech and would likely be seen as a provocation to North Korea. That's, of course, what he wanted. And so, he said it. (It is dominating news coverage.)

Exactly, it is a speech he easily could have used at campaign rally, and he is too ignorant to know that it was totally inappropriate at the U.N.

    What a buffoon.

"America First" illustrates and reinforces the spirit of condescension echoed over and over again in his speech. . . . It was almost as if he was speaking to other members of the U.N. as subordinates. . . . So much for global relationships.

Furthermore, Trump's "madman" strategy has lit the fuse on an already precarious situation in N. Korea. . . . Hawkish Hillary Clinton was a dove compared to "Dirty Harry" Trump.

How long will it be before America joins the rest of the world in a vote of "no confidence" in our out-of-control Commander-in-Chief???

Guys I have to be honest this speech he gave was truly frightening. It literally felt like Hitler was up there representing us. This man is a racist, a sexist a homophobe and all around boorish fascist pig!

It's bad enough we have slavery and segregation and genocide in our history but instead of learning from it we elect literally Hitler?!?!?!?!

I know I voted for him but I didn't know he was this bad I will literally dedicate the rest of my life to helping minorities who are being oppressed in racist america just to make up for the awful vote I casted in 2016.

Dude, is this you? I mean, I know you were mad about the premise of an amnesty negotiation, but this is like a total switch.

I am thoroughly enjoying prog reactions to this speech, which is one of the best I've ever heard.

Wow. Didn't see this coming. Shanks is criticizing Trump.

Tell me, how was anything he said inaccurate? Do you think the US should continue to do nothing as despots threaten the US and allies with nuclear war? Why do you believe Iran becoming a nuclear country isn't a threat to the US and Israel?

You spent a lot of time writing up what is in essence a baseless rant. You offer nothing more in depth than Trump = bad.

I was laying in my apartment the other night and I realized something. My whole life I've been brainwashed by right-wing propaganda that pumps out nothing but bigotry and hatred through our airwaves by the likes of Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity.

I'm not about that man. I'm a Christian. I'm all about peace and love not systemic white privilege and patriarchal oppression!

Rhetorically, it was the equivalent of a toddler crapping his diaper, pulling out a handful and eating it at a dinner party...

With all due respect sir I can appreciate a good laugh like the next guy but I'm pretty sure people laughed at Hitler at first. This is no laughing matter we have a LITERAL NAZI who represented us today at the UN and he is capable of ANYTHING (the worst atrocities!)we must be vigilant and never keep our eyes closed to what these white supremacists are doing.

It's about time that the UN was called out for their inaction, hypocrisy, and dishonesty. Trump's speech was masterful as evidenced by the exploding heads of the liberal progressives on this forum.
