In some ways this was a troll - an ex NRA a president and an infamous “gun rights” misinformer tricked into giving lectures for a fake University when in fact that talk was delivered to over 3,000 empty chairs - the children who were shot and died that year and who will never graduate. https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/amberjamieson/nra-president-graduation-speech
Oh look, a leftist media cartel duped several well known anti-gun folks. Who could have seen that coming?
Not really. A 'Troll' would've been hiding them back stage so they couldn't see the empty chairs and then having them walk out to it and filming their reaction. Instead, they "invited Keene and John Lott, an author and gun rights activist, to give remarks to a high school graduating class and filmed what they were told was a rehearsal in a stadium of empty chairs. After filming, Keene and Lott were told the graduation was canceled and were not informed before the videos were released on Wednesday that the event was fake." Thats really more like a scam, and if it turns out there was any profit involved, it would probably qualify as fraud.
No profit but simple point scoring - that being that for this last year alone more than 3,000 will not graduate due to gun violence
So of the 14k gun homicides, we're expected to believe that 3k, 21% of all homicides, were all high school seniors?
Go back to the 70s, 80s, and 90s. The rights protected by the Bill of Rights do not depend upon statistics.
No. If knives were involved (and if you are suggesting that there would be an automatic substitution I suggest you show ONE a country that that has occurred) they are a low velocity weapon ergo there is often less damage and therefore it becomes more survivable
I understand. Does the fact that someone murders a child with a gun give the government the authority to ignore the Constitution, the Bill of Rights and SCOTUS?
"Instead, the 3,044 empty seats represented the students who did not graduate this year because they were killed by gun violence." The average number of firearm deaths of all types averages about 1300 for those age 17-18. This is based on a lie.
There was no proof. Just some handwaving about an estimate. CDC WISQARS numbers show an average of 1300 gun related deaths for the five years 2014-2019 for two years worth of ages, 17 and 18, which would overstate the amount of potential graduates in any given year. So the real number should actually be closer to 650 to 700 per year, and that's without deducting hogh school dropouts involved in gang and drug related activities at the time of their deaths. https://webappa.cdc.gov/sasweb/ncipc/mortrate.html
Who said they confined it to just two years? Every child under the age of 17 that dies that year will be a child that will not graduate But even if it were only 1300 that is still one of the highest death rates in the world https://edition.cnn.com/2018/12/20/health/child-gun-deaths-rising/index.html Forget gun ownership - work out how this statistic can be reduced
And this makes it OK why? Why does being black mean they are worth less than people with lighter skin colour
The people who set up the prank confined to one year - that's why the 1300 should actually be more like 650. "Without realizing it, Keene was actually addressing his comments to thousands of empty chairs set up to represent the estimated 3,044 kids who should have graduated high school this year and instead were killed by gun violence. ⦁ Allow individual access to NICS so that private sales can utilize the background check process. Sen Coburn sponsored a bill that would be very effective for this. ⦁ Exempt CCW and LEO from background checks. ⦁ Arrest those who commit felonies while attempting to get guns. In 2010, 72,000 applicants were denied permission to purchase a firearm via the NICS and state systems. 34,000 of these were denied for previous felony convictions. Another 20,000 were denied for state and local prohibited status. Only 10 (10!) were convicted. We still have tens of thousands of people who committed a felony by lying on the Form 4473 and have a violent past free to find guns through illegal means. Given that a violent felon is looking for a gun, how many violent crimes could be prevented by arresting and incarcerating these felons? https://www.ncjrs.gov/pdffiles1/bjs/grants/239272.pdf ⦁ Focus on the gun dealers and sellers who sell large amounts of guns to ineligible buyers. If the Brady Campaign knows who they are, then ATF knows who the major sellers are. ⦁ Mandatory sentences for those who use guns in acts of criminal violence. Stop plea bargaining away gun crimes. http://chicagoreporter.com/thousand...-being-dismissed-cook-county-criminal-courts/ ⦁ Extend the legal possession geographies for CCW holders. ⦁ Go arrest the criminals who have guns illegally now - don't wait for them to commit a crime. ⦁ Fully prosecute and punish straw purchasers. http://www.omaha.com/news/crime/pol...cle_dcd60ace-8716-5651-9125-cb297998694e.html
