https://www.cnn.com/2020/03/19/politics/tulsi-gabbard-ends-2020-campaign/index.html I'm more surprised there is no thread about this then the actual ending of the campaign. It was a faint hope, but it seems that Biden is the name-dejour. Hopefully backing a corporate establishment candidate won't result in a similar turn-out as the last time, but maybe they learned their lesson adn will actually visit the swing states.
I wonder if Pelosi and the media will blame her lack of success on misogyny and sexism like they did when Warren dropped out?
I'm not surprised Tulsi dropped out and then endorsed Biden. With a 300 delegate lead, with the proportional system the Democrats use in awarding delegates, that 300 delegate lead might as well be 3,000. The only path to winning the nomination is my math is correct, is for Sanders to win every remaining state by 30 points. Now not being sure how each state awards their delegates, they differ in different states, that percentage may be off a few points either way. I do agree about visiting swing states, That is where Hillary lost in 2016. She ignored the so called blue wall states, she also ceded the campaign trail to Trump. In Wisconsin, Trump made five visits, stops, appearances to Hillary's none. Michigan, it was Trump six, Hillary one. Pennsylvania was closer, 8 for Trump, 5 for Hillary. Even in electoral vote rich Florida, Hillary let Trump out campaign her there 13-8. Overall, nationwide, since 1 Sep through 8 Nov 2016, Trump made 116 campaign appearances, stops, rallies, visits to Hillary's 71. That 71 looks larger than what it actual was as it includes campaign fund raising event in deep blue California and New York. Hillary certainly did run a ho hum, lazy campaign. For Biden to win, all he has to do is the opposite of what Hillary did in 2016.
I heard her saying last night she would have an announcement this morning not say what it was but hard to imagine anything else. Shame she was probably the most reasonable and rational candidate they had. Of course if this was the Republicans then I'm sure the Democrats would be talking about how Republicans hate women and refuse to nominate a woman. I'll refrain here.
Although I will vote for Trump in November, I think Biden could win. Since he has committed to naming a woman as his VP, I would prefer that it be Tulsi over all the others. If Biden cannot complete his term, I would prefer Tulsi take over rather than Harris, Warren, or Klobuchar.
I was thinking Tulsi isn't who I thought she was if she's endorsing this turd. But I hadn't considered her as VP. Thats interesting. I don't see Biden's mind lasting 4 years in office. I'd put money on it ending up being mostly a Tulsi Admin. Not that I think they would have a shot at beating Trump...
Unfortunately like the other women not even the Dems rallied around them. Of course Gabbard never had the funding.
Not going to happen... And it won't be Warren either... Joe said he'd take a woman, not somebody almost as old as he is.. Sounds like it will be Kamala, but I'd much rather it be Amy.... Dark horse pick could be Senator Shaheen D NH, but she's also 73. OMG, the seniors...
The one sane runner on the Democrat side, and she didn't have a snowball's chance in hell. Because she was sane. Let's hope she steps back up next time a little stronger.
All of us here are politically aware. We are also more aware of the issues, we know a lot about the facts of the issues, etc. But the general public is not like this group of political junkies. Frankly, the general public is a huge flock of sheep. What in heaven's name did Hillary Clinton have going for her that got her the nomination? The answer is the same thing Joe Biden has going for him. Name recognition. That's it. The women who ran against Biden were mostly known in the areas they came from, and they could not compete against the nationally recognized Biden name. And so, although Hillary was a horrible, evil person, and even though Joe is a corrupt establishment snake oil salesman who is clearly becoming senile, name recognition outweighs everything. It's a foolish and ignorant way to make the choice, but, as I say, the general public is a flock of sheep. Biden's political handlers are not going to care about the good of the country. What they will care about is winning no matter what. And so the VP choice is going to be a purely political choice, not one based upon the candidate's character and qualifications. That being the case, I predict that they will not choose Tulsi Gabbard. They're going to choose Warren, Klobuchar, or Harris because of the block of voters each one can bring with them. Harris would appeal to minorities. Warren would appeal to Bernie supporters. Klobuchar is just generally likable. None of them have the character and record of service that Tulsi Gabbard has, but it won't matter. A lot of our fellow Trump supporters are optimistic. I hope my pessimism is misplaced, but I think Trump could lose in November. And then we end up with an increasingly senile president and a VP that we didn't want waiting for him to pass away or resign or be removed under the 25th Amendment. Sorry, but that's how I see it.
Don't you believe Hillary? Why would she say such a thing? We don't need Russians helping us make memes on the internet.
Good point... I assume that she will now drop that ridiculous lawsuit and attempt to get back in her party's decent graces again... That lawsuit is another reason Joe can't consider her...
I agree with your first part that if you did a street survey most would not recognize any of the other names and go "OH Biden wasn't he a VP or something......yeah I'll support him". The other women candidates did not show they could draw voters heck Warren couldn't even win her own state. Biden might have to dig down into the Congress or a former or current governor Gretchen Whitmer Gretchen Whitmer is the Democratic governor of Michigan, where she started serving as governor in 2019. The 49th governor of the state, she had served as a Michigan State Representative from 2001 to 2006 and Michigan State Senator from 2006 to 2015. Not a long history but maybe could ensure Michigan Kate Brown Kate Brown is the Democratic governor of Oregon, where she's served as governor since 2015. She was elected as secretary of state and, in 2016, was elected to lead the state to serve the remaining two years of former Gov. John Kitzhaber’s term. The attorney previously served in the Oregon House of Representatives, in the Oregon State Senate representing portions of Milwaukie and Portland, and as Oregon Secretary of State. Not a huge state and one Biden would probably win anyway.
Lately VP seems to be more about a demographic and less about a specific state. Pence was for evangelicals. Biden for working whites. Cheney for super villains.
I suppose his pick could be some nationally unknown person like you suggested, but my money is on one of the three I mentioned.
Great news. Tulsi is just being a Pragmatic Democrat. Tulsi, under the right set of circumstances, could be a Great Surrogate. Also, this puts Tulsi squarely in the VP stakes, if the presumptive Pick (Harris) was a no go. I still say Biden/Harris. But, Biden/Gabbard would be a Great Ticket. Tulsi even checks off that "Woman of Color" box.
I see the writing on the wall my friend, and it says Trump will walk all over Biden on his way to be re-elected, no matter whom Biden chose to prop himself up. It does not matter.
Who gives a damn about color? Why is it always about identity with you people? Is it really that hard to want someone who doesn't meet the "color/gender/sexuality" specifics?
