The litmus test we should apply when we think about deploying our soldiers:

“Would I give up MY son for this?”

If the answer is no, bring ‘em home.

Turkey set to invade northern Syria, White House says, raising concerns for Kurdish fighters
To teach students the level of dishonesty & lack of loyalty Hitler was capable of, history teachers often cite how Hitler & Stalin signed a non-aggression pact in 1939, just prior to both invading Poland on 9/1/39, only to have Hitler launch a surprise attack against the USSR in June 1941. Hitler was completely self-serving, & had no compunction about using lies, treachery, or any other underhanded means to get what he wanted. He'd throw anyone under the bus who he felt opposed anything he wanted. He demanded loyalty from others around him, but never offered that in return.

Today we learn that President Trump has given his approval to a plan by Turkey to invade N Syria militarily. During the ISIS campaigns over the past several years, the U.S. fought in that area, losing many Americans defeating ISIS. Our foremost & staunchest ally there, sharing both the fighting & the casualties, was the Kurds. Of all the Middle Eastern allies, the Kurds were the most loyal & the most dependable as fellow combatants. Turkey has a long history of unprovoked violence against the Kurds. Turkey wants to invade N Syria as a path to eliminating the Kurds. Today, President Trump officially gave Turkey free reign in carrying out their malicious plans. Today, like Hitler in 1941, Trump turned against a comrade in arms, with a long history of loyalty & friendship as co-combatants in the field of battle, & ordered American troops to abandon the field, leaving the Kurds in a desparate, life-threatening situation that they did not create.

I never dreamed I'd ever live to see my America demonstrate such disloyalty & disregard for a comrade in battle. Is this Trump's way of "making America great again"? Is any country "great" who abandons their comrades in arms to the whims of their deadliest enemies? Is this the extent of Trump's "loyalty" toward those who've served with him in the field of battle? Is this the "New America" all you Republicans & Trump supporters dreamed of? Is "America First" synonymous with "America Only," & to hell with anyone & everyone else? That is so far from the America I have always loved, it is no longer recognizable to me. Trump is destroying America by making America like himself. I can think of no greater tragedy than having America end on such a sour note after the incredible leadership that gave it birth.

The intent was to keep the Arab states from uniting and becoming powerful - so Britain drew the lines in the sand and gave the wealth to some but not to others. They knew the wealthier ones wouldn't want to share their wealth. Washington tried to break up Syria the way it broke up Yugoslavia for the same reason, but Russia intervened since they saw it as a threat to them.

The Iranians did much of the fighting, and this is why Assad hesitates to ask Iran to leave - yet, unless the Iranians leave, Israel will always see Syria as a threat. If the US does leave, then Assad will feel free to also ask the Iranians to leave.

Why do you think America has to murder Muslims ? and why do you think this will provide credibility to them ?

Actually the vast number of Muslims who have been slaughtered in the Middle East were slaughtered by Muslims.

As for the Kurds, too bad. Trump said they were paid a great amount of money to fight, and they were tempted with the idea of establishing a country incorporating Syria's oil and gas wealth. As I said the Kurds are not indigenous to the area they are claiming, and I don't think it's worth having that part of the world blow up - which it will considering Iran and Israel's posture.

The Kurds have made amends with Assad, and they do have plans on becoming a federated state within the Syrian Republic. So they will get their independence and it will be legal and recognized internationally. They will also have the support of the Syrian army in fighting the Turks.

No, that is not right either. The Kurdish group in question was 'somewhat' allied with Syria's Assad government, fighting ISIS, but they were distanced from Assad when the Americans actively entered the scene. That is, in fact, one reason why both Iran and Assad are opposed to Turkey's move, although Iran's opposition will be somewhat muted by larger geopolitical considerations. Specifically, under current circumstances, while Iran doesn't support what Turkey is doing, it doesn't want its relationship with Turkey to suffer too much
I don't know where you are getting your information, but it isn't accurate.

Weakness at home = Weakness abroad. The Turks just bluffed Trump out. Months ago, when the Turks threatened to do the same thing, he told Turkey "no," because he still needed the Kurds to fight ISIS. With ISIS defeated, Turkey figured that Trump wouldn't say "no" twice...and he didn't.

Here is Trump sounding off on his "Great and unmatched wisdom"
Trump threatens to OBLITERATE Turkey’s economy if it does ‘anything off limits’

In a fairly blunt warning to the NATO ally, US President Donald Trump vowed to “obliterate” the Turkish economy if he thinks it’s stepped out of line in Syria. He then told Ankara to “watch over” ISIS fighters in the US’ absence.
“If Turkey does anything that I, in my great and unmatched wisdom, consider to be off limits, I will totally destroy and obliterate the Economy of Turkey (I’ve done before!)” the president threatened via tweet on Monday – an odd turn of phrase for what otherwise seemed like a dire warning to a supposed ally.

As I have stated strongly before, and just to reiterate, if Turkey does anything that I, in my great and unmatched wisdom, consider to be off limits, I will totally destroy and obliterate the Economy of Turkey (I’ve done before!). They must, with Europe and others, watch over...

Trump called for Turkey to join “Europe and others” in “watch[ing] over the captured ISIS [Islamic State] fighters and families” just hours after announcing the US would finally pull out of northern Syria on Monday. The announcement triggered howls of fury from hawks in Congress and the media, as well as sudden experts in Middle Eastern politics who cried that leaving Syria would abandon the Kurds to be torn apart by Turkey.

....the captured ISIS fighters and families. The U.S. has done far more than anyone could have ever expected, including the capture of 100% of the ISIS Caliphate. It is time now for others in the region, some of great wealth, to protect their own territory. THE USA IS GREAT!

    My sources say...
Putin wants Iran out of Syria,

Assad wants Iran out of Syria.

Trump wants Iran out of Syria.

Israel wants Iran out of Syria.

President Obama fired Gen. "Mad Dog"Mattis because he wanted to kick Iran in the balls and break all four if Iran's limbs.

Secretary of Defense Gen. "Mad Dog" Mattis resigned from the Trump administration because he still wanted to kick Iran in the balls and break all four limbs of Iran.

John Bolton either resigned or was fired depending who you want to believe because Bolton being a liberal Republican aka Neocon wanted to kick Iran in the balls and castrate Iran.

Barack Obama and Valerie Jarrett like Iran and want to give Iran every thing they want.

    Hamas needs Iran.

So...to soften the backlash, he now threatens Turkey with economic sanctions if "in my great and unmatched wisdom" Turkey does something he doesn't like. 25th Amendment time!

Cheer up...things will get worse. Too many things closing in on him from too many directions and he alienates most people around him. Every President reaches a point when they need to call upon friends...and friends are not made by threats. He doesn't understand that and will take those left around him down with him as he attempts to escape the inevitable.

My impression is that the "Arab Spring" was the inevitable result of not finding WMD in Iraq and substituting "regime change" as the excuse for our invasion. Obama, whom I believe wanted to shift the American focus from the impossible situation in the Middle East to the Pacific Basin, which he felt he knew better, was simply "walking the Bush talk" - i.e. how could the U.S. oppose popular uprisings and still be credible to the people of the Middle East?

Yes...it is, IF capitalism does not reform itself. I believe even Alan Greenspan observed his greatest failure was in thinking that "markets self-regulate" and then discovering they didn't.

Syria had experienced 5 years of drought and the collapse of both agriculture and their oil sector by 2006. Farmers moved into the cities where unemployment was already a problem. Syria has ALWAYS been wracked by sectarian strife.. Hayfez Assad just killed tens of thousands of them. See Hama massacre.

You have a very myopic view of the world.

Trump is the only one not crazy. When the US leaves, Iran will also leave and the Kurds will have the full support of the Syrian army. Of course there is an alternative:

Interesting...so conditions for civil war were ripe...and the U.S. gave the "green light" with regime change.

What do you think has changed in Syria other than 6 million Syrians fleeing the country?
