In a perfect world? No.

In a world where historically such discrimination has denied people access to significant parts of the economy, yes.

That has nothing to do with gay marriage specifically: It's a general law that applies to people who want to offer services to the public. You can't refuse to serve people because of their race, gender, ethnicity, religion, etc.

 

That does not mean it is the country. Social Security, other than a few exceptions, qualifies a person by age to get benefits. It qualifies us to be citizens. (meaning, we must be citizens to collect) At the least for me to collect, I had to show my birth certificate and it had to be certified true. Taxes on some things are progressive. Your fuel taxes are not, nor are your sales taxes. There is no justification for income tax to be levied. Were it entirely based on sales, none of us need submit to personal examinations of any sort.

Think of you working for a company that can force you to submit to their examinations. I doubt you would support it nor should we support it done by government.

Frankly one only need check the budget of the USA to see quickly that socialism is extremely costly and is driving up the national debt by leaps and bounds. i see no end short of the country bankrupting.

Most of the problems in the USA can be resolved in favor of not denying you rights you believe you have.

To force me to sell cakes, rent a home to, any selected class, deprives me of my rights.

A nation that deprives citizens of rights is no better than those who lock one up for the same things or levy steep fines on you for exercising your right to take a particular action.

Heterosexuals were long unique. They produce children. Men have for almost all of history wanted to be only responsible for their own children. Even today in America at least, when the woman with her children marries a man, and later divorces, he will not pay for her children she had prior to him marrying her.

Matter of fact, it is a recent change in some countries to even accept homosexuals. Muslims are a large population and they kill homosexuals. Marriage in the Muslim community for same sex can get them killed.

Unfortunately, history shows that allowing people to do that results in large numbers of people locked out of large parts of the economy. So much as I wish it weren't so, it makes sense to forbid such discrimination.

The "etc" is the problematic part of your statement. If I run a shop I can refuse service to redheads and people with long fingernails (unless a bona fide disability). I should be able to withhold service to gays, though that is fast getting incorporated into law. I certainly should be able to not bake a wedding cake for a gay couple, especially on religious grounds..

Perhaps that is because the term "successful" is subjective. For example I hope that the attempt to fund the wall is unsuccessful in the absence of a cost benefit analysis made public that justifies the expenditure.

I have always got a kick out of the above argument. America is not a Christian Nation as we are a Constitutionally based representative Republic as opposed to a mono theocracy. If America is founded upon Christian values then slavery is a Christian value. If I were a Christian I would not hitch my wagon to the American system. Get back to me when the Constitution is replaced by the Bible and SCOUTS is replaced by a prophet with a direct connection to God.

Perhaps they want to change this country from what it has become back to what it once was. Pre-Income Tax, pre Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, etc. Pre 1913, raising sheep on the White House Front Lawn, an rural, agrarian society instead of an urban one.

Back to a time when the total expenditures of the federal government was one billion dollar if that and the national debt roughly 20 billion. But today, people have become reliant on government. They bitch about the amount not taxes they pay, but love the benefits. Most people receive some sort of government benefit and most people love what they receive. I agree, we are already part socialist. It's probably just a matter of time before we become a complete socialist country. Once the people get or recevie a new benefit from the government, a new program, there is no going back.
