Ukraine had to resort to old-school police tactics to quash a protest by local residents of a small town when they closed roads after learning that a plane full of possible carriers of the new coronavirus was heading their way.
On Thursday, the Ukrainian government finally evacuated its citizens from the epidemic-stricken Chinese city of Wuhan. Four people were barred from boarding the plane by medics due to elevated body temperature, but 73 others boarded the charter flight. After a short detour to Kazakhstan to deliver two nationals to the Central Asian country, the plane flew to Ukraine.
But not everyone in Ukraine was happy for their 45 compatriots and 29 foreigners who were fleeing China. Some residents of Novi Sanzhary, in Ukraine’s Poltava region, learned that they will be hosting the evacuees and crew members from the plane at a local medical resort. Much like similarly-minded people in Hong Kong, they said they didn’t want to take the risk and resorted to street protests.
As tensions boiled over, President Volodymyr Zelensky took to Facebook to chastise the protesters.
“The attempts to cut off roads and block the hospital, to prevent Ukrainian citizens from coming to Ukraine, do not show the best side of our character,” he wrote. “I realize that for several decades our policies created a bad habit of distinguishing between ‘right’ and ‘wrong’ Ukrainians. But that time is over.”
Similar protests using roadblocks and threats to burn tires happened earlier this week in the Ternopil and Lviv regions of Ukraine, where local residents were agitated by a rumor that their communities had been chosen to keep evacuees in quarantine.

In Ternopil oblast of Ukraine the residents held a prayer against those ones evacuated from Wuhan to be placed in the local resort Medobory. A priest sang "Holy mother of God, save us".

This Wuhan lab chaos is a long, long ways from over. Wait to see what people are going to do all over the world when their governments say that they must submit and allow death to visit them.

Ukrainians meet their compatriots from China's Wuhan with stones and burning tyres.

Damn. Is this virus a serious threat more so than the flu people get every year ? Or is this just witch burning hysteria?

The Spanish flu killed 50 to a hundred million people during ww1.

I have not kept up with this virus. Are we being told the truth about it? Do I need to load up on food and become a hermit given I am elderly with a compromised immune system? Do we think this virus will end once it warms up and flu season is over?

At this point nobody in any government really knows much. Some scientists say 14 day incubation, some say 24 day incubation. Some say permanent lower lobe respiratory impairment, some say no, full recovery. Nobody has a handle on the morbidity rate, the mortality rate, or how expensive it will be.

As always you can never believe government during a threat of emergency and must read between the lines and determine the best strategy and course of action for yourself.

The priest should be praying for the Chinese people and those who had just arrived, but he's either a Uniate priest or a member of Pat. Bartolomews new schismatic church, and they're more concerned with their national identity than with faith. Of course Washington's fingerprints are all over it.

The kind of thing being reported here is undoubtedly. COVID-19 is somewhat more serious than seasonal flu, apparently being slightly more infectious, slightly more deadly and, significantly, with no vaccination protection at all but with properly managed quarantine procedures, it shouldn’t pose any major concern among the general population.

Spanish flu was an especially severe strain but the limitations in managing and treating patients would have been an issue too. Any significant illness had higher mortality rates in the that environment so it isn’t really a valid comparison to anything today.

I think we can be confident about the technical details about the actual virus since there are experts around the world independently looking at it. Some of the figures coming out of China are questionable due to propaganda but in the West I think we can be confident that it shouldn’t pose any great threat and we only need to follow the normal sanitary practices we should do anyway (but probably don’t).

This outbreak will die down over time, just like all the previous ones have, though that doesn’t mean the virus goes away. There are countless viruses which could trigger similar outbreaks, many much less serious, some much more. It just takes the right set of circumstances to happen.

Aha! :oldman: Now we know why the Western Ukrainian Nazi lands are having riots and throwing rocks at the evacuees from China. According to Buzzfeed, It's all because of an e-mail from a foreign nation - no doubt Russia. I guess the Russians want them to look bad.

March on my friends, and pay some heed
to search around and help us weed
the sick ones from among us folks
and stop the Russians in their works.

For if we don't, Moscow shall rule,
and turn our land into a tool,
    for Putin and their personal gain;
    with mockery and every shame.

As Nazis we all know what's good
    what's pure and clean,
the way it should be always,
    so let's do what's right

and fight the blight of coronavirus - Jeannette

Probably worse, maybe not immeasurable worse. It is very fast actin to transfer in possibly unpredictable ways so far. We have no vaccine for at least a year, so that alone makes it worse.

Sadly, our our public health infrastructure is probably worse now than in the Spanish Flu, the USA is possibly worse than most First World countries. We count on antibiotics for our better survival rates, but the medicines like this will be out of stock in a very short time, like a couple weeks assuming China or anyone else will sell any to the USA (other than the wealthiest, as usual).
Much is not known. If anyone says they know, they are probably lying or at least utterly uninformed. Many are claiming any number of entities manufactured it or let it escape, but unlikely.
I stocked up at Costco 3 weeks ago. I don't have much room so canned meat and water and some dried fruit. My usual of 20 gallons of water. My immune system not the best either, so I plan to save home as much as possible. But careful hand washing and a basic mask (which keeps you from touching your own face or eyes). Get multiple thermometers, especially fast reading ones so you can show someone your temp, not necessarily helpful. A cute trick is to get some disposable lighters to light a fire, but also to use the lighter tip to push elevator buttons and then light the lighter after to sterilize it.

Not unnecessarily in my view. Nothing says the temperature makes it hard to survive, maybe not being cooped up might reduce transmission, and surfaces may be infectious be shorter, but it seems to be airborne, maybe, so being in sneeze range may be dangerous hot or cold.

All of things are always true, really, so just do to be the usual cautions. I am much more concerned about hysterica and panic. Watching videos In China of personnel trying to get obviously sick people to get to quarantine and the sick person fighting the workers was scary to me. Not many people have heavy, high compacity guns there. In the USA, those same sick people will sometimes have weapons and will resist, to the detriment of all people involved and any uninvolved people up to a 1000 feet or more away.

Still posting silly pics of so called "Nazis" , Jennycakes?!?:).

Where's those videos? You remember, of mass riots in Kharkiv, Mariupol, etc? Credible ones, in real time, I await.

Yes, I saw them on tv a few days ago. It looked bad. Bad enough doing this to your 'other' but to your own people......

It is much more infectious than flue. China seemed to believe the only way to stop it spreading was to keep everyone in their homes. Infection is not yet understood but it would appear that some people feel fine and do not know they have anything wrong with them. Other people get mild and the main people who get it bad and die are those over 60 with other medical conditions. Infants that other usual vulnerable category appear to hardly ever get it and/or not to get it badly. In addition men and smokers are more likely to be affected than women and non smokers.

On infecting others this seems to be one of the places where things are not clear as yet. It believes that people can infect others before they have symptoms themselves and that the quarantine period possibly should be 24 or even 27 days. It would appear to spread airborne and given that people can be infectious while showing no symptoms difficult to contain.

Possibly the most concerning consideration is that people having been found to be free of the virus are later testing positive again. There was a vaccine created for Sars but it did not protect the person but made them get it worse - or it did to the mice. There are technical medical details but I cannot remember them.

So...we do not know. It does seem to spread very easily - just how easily we will probably find out in the next few days. At the moment it mainly kills the old, particularly men and smokers or others with other health problems. The main cost of the virus here would likely be economic as the rest of the world goes into lockdown, voluntary or not.

Why go into lockdown? - because it is so infectious and we do not know how dangerous it is with it being a new virus. If it has as some are thinking come back when a person's immune response has already come in contact with it but then have a much more serious affect we could easily beat the Spanish Flue for deaths. It could be disastrous but hopefully the main cost will be economic.

Was it the Pres. of Ukraine that said; 'Yes we are Europe, the Europe of the Middle Ages." This went on in two towns as well in Western Ukraine 'Naziland'. Of course Russia's to blame.

I came across something disturbing about the 'alleged' virus. Two reliable sites I visited questioned if it was an actual virus, or if it was biological warfare since the 6th person in British Columbia to get the illness, picked it up in Homs Iran. Homs is the home of the Mullahs. The question is, how did it get there?

I was wondering about children and if it affects them since they have stronger immune systems. I did read at the start, that it attacks mostly Asian men since they have a vulnerability in their lungs.

I'm also curious to know what Russia, China and Iran are finding out about the virus? They must have made some studies. What about Italy? If perchance it is a bio weapon, whoever developed it, (as if I don't know) would want to see which people are the most vulnerable. Italy would be an interesting place to find out, since there are so many migrants from Africa. Would it affect the migrants more than the Italians, and especially the Northern Italians who tend to be more German?

Don't pay any attention to me, I'm just speculating.

Well, I came across an announcement from Iran that...

Two people have died in Iran after testing positive on Wednesday for the new coronavirus, the health ministry said, in the Islamic republic’s first cases of the disease. According to YJC news agency, a branch of state television, the pair who died were Iranian citizens and residents of the holy city of Qom.
They are also the first deaths from the COVID-19 virus in the Middle East and only the seventh and eighth outside China, where the outbreak has killed more than 2,000 people.

State news agency IRNA quoted Kianoush Jahanpour, a ministry spokesman, as saying the virus was detected in two elderly people with immunity problems in Qom, south of the Iranian capital.

    Read more here:

    https://www.theyucatantimes.com/202...-coronaviurs-first-deaths-in-the-middle-east/
    ----
The question still is, how did the virus get to Iran? There have to be more people who actually are sick with the virus, how else could the old people have gotten it without leaving the country??

Our military has a secret laboratory in Georgia and in the Donbas in Ukraine - and in who knows how many other places. Talking about Georgia, they're getting too friendly with Russia, so they're in for another one of our regime changes. Oh well, what else is new.

I know the Duran found it disturbing, and on Israeli News Live Steven Ben Nun said it was a bio attack - and he does have a lot of connections in Israel and Syria.

;) It did cross my mind it could be a very handy way of getting rid of the excess of old we currently have! Conspiracy theories aside, what I have heard is that it appears to come from bats as I think you said at one time. There also could be many different viruses and they need to look at the cross over to humans - something like that - that there is a big space where crossover is possible.

As far as Iran is concerned it is believed it was brought there by someone who visited China. There is however talk of possibly more deaths in Iran which could possibly be due to the virus changing. I would think that given the US is stopping Iran being able to get medical supplies that that could be a big problem for Iran and itself cause more deaths. One of the fears about a massive increase in deaths is when people's need for hospital care exceeds that which is available. In Iran there is also knowledge that people who were later found to be infected had massive exposure to others - for instance one Dr who died had been treating patients in hospital with no protection and someone else had been attending mosque where ten thousand other people were so there is great concern for Iran that the virus may already be widespread, that it may have changed to be more aggressive and that Iran may not have the ability to give the needed medical help - due to the US stopping them getting needed supplies - Iranians have been dying for a long time due to the US sanctions on them receiving needed medical supplies from outside.

I have been watching this site. I haven't yet watched this one.

He speculates and looks at things which are not peer reviewed and has been criticised for that. Not everything he says will be true. It is speculation and he tends to speculate on a more serious outcome. However he has been shown to be pretty good up till now. I notice things he speculated on now being taken up by much more cautions people.

Get in a good supply of toilet paper and water!!! ;)
