And many more ... for example every national TV Broadcaster in the US did!

Allow me, a German, to have a certain level of malice at this point ... even if it is inappropriate to have with a look at the many Corona deaths worldwide.

    Anyway...
Derided by many economists for insisting on a balanced budget, and criticised for a health care system seen as bloated and overly expensive, Germany has found itself well equipped now to weather the coronavirus pandemic.
Already applauded for early actions such as social-distancing regulations and aggressive testing seen as helping keep the death toll comparatively low, Europe’s largest economy has had the financial flexibility to launch a massive rescue plan to help businesses and keep workers paid. Sure, we too have an increase in unemployment and many companies are facing bankruptcy or have filed for it. But in the relevant comparison to others, everything is very small for us!

As the country moves to relax some restrictions this week, Angela Merkel is pointing to the example of South Korea, which relied on its experience fighting a different coronavirus five years ago to combat Covid-19, as the way forward. So we look at the others who used to do it better and want to learn from it and do it at least as well ... and we don't stand up and look for scapegoats for our own mistakes as others do!

Meanwhile, in the US, some protesters have taken to the streets — supported by President Donald Trump’s tweets — to demand an end to virus-related shutdowns to help the faltering economy and / or because restriction of civil rights, even if it could lead to an increase in deaths as the health care system struggles.
Well ... we also have people who protest on the street for it, albeit much less than in the United States. But the majority of Germans have no understanding for these people, especially for those who demonstrate because of the restriction of civil rights. Of course, everyone is worried about the economic consequences, but ultimately this question comes to a head on whether money matters more than human life! The current easing and resolutions of the federal government and the 16 state governments are the beginning of an appropriate and careful restart. Around 46% of the population say it is right, around 38% say it is too early ... only 11% say it is far too little and total end of restriction has to be done!

This is a crisis which, on the one hand, has probably hit the US and many others in Europe like Italy, France, UK and Spain, where it is most vulnerable, namely their national health care, mainly because it was the goal of massive savings in the past...
While at the same time it has hit the German economy where it’s the strongest. For example ... while Italy, France and Spain were faced at the height of the crisis with the choice of allocating precious ICU beds to elderly patients or younger patients with better chances of survival, Germany has never had a shortage, and has even taken in many patients from other European countries to help... or, as in the case of Great Britain, delivered the urgently needed but missing device for free in huge numbers out of military stockpiles (!!!) - keyword filter systems and fans to set up further isolation stations in hospitals.
We do not expect a thank you for this because we take it for granted to help others as much as possible! But nevertheless the old anti-German Shitstorm came out of some moose and here often with nods to Nazis, which we simply find sad and poor.

For years, balanced budget proponents argued it was prudent during good economic times to bring Germany’s house in order to be prepared for any sort of crisis.
So in announcing a 1 trillion euro (about 1.1 trillion USD) rescue plan for our 83 million people and economy last month, our Finance Minister was able to assure there was more money available, if needed ... and this is fact.
And again there are these bad voices against Germany with a nod to the Nazi era ... that the bad Germans should once again pay everything to everyone in Europe, as it was demanded in 2008 during the crisis once ... and of course only pay and shut up! This is just disgusting and results in the long-stretched middle finger as a German reaction!

Nice you can mooch off the US for your defense instead of paying for it yourself.

Nice that you are parroting the same bullcrap as a parrot as your jerk in the White House ... so showing the same ignorance of the factual facts as he does, or is it even ignorance of undeniable facts?

Have you ever heard of the NATO agreement in Wales in 2014? No? Well ... it was decided here by all NATO members that from 2024 each member would have to spend 2% of GDP on defense. Do we have the year 2020 or already 2024, eh?

The US is actually paying a crap for our defense! In truth, since the end of the cold war, the United States has been less and less fulfilling its NATO obligations and has simply shifted its duties to others! Except for nuclear weapons, the United States actually does practically nothing for NATO. What is still stationed here in Europe is only ridiculously little. And most of all, what is still here at bases and camps, that serves its own, worldwide US interests, which have nothing to do with NATO.

You count in your bill things that have nothing to do with NATO ... or since when have South Korea and Japan been a member of NATO? What you have in terms of costs has nothing to do with NATO ... and these are just two of many examples of US defense costs which, because of your claim to be active all over the world as a world power, which a) have nothing to do with NATO has to do and b) which other NATO members do not have because they do not claim to be active anywhere in the world!

Germany has the second highest expenditure in NATO after the USA in USD / Euro! Interesting, eh?
If we go from the current 1.6% to 2%, then we have the 3rd highest military expenditure in the world, after you and China and even before Russia in 4th place!
What happens if we do that anyway? Is the old Nazi crap coming back because of the bad Germans arming like Adolf Hitler once did after he seized power?
Whether 2% or not is actually irrelevant! It is important that the expenses are sufficient. It is correct here that Germany has to spend a little more money on modernization and equipment, but not so much. Rather, it is about a more effective organization and administration, as well as preventing waste of taxpayers' money, where we unfortunately have some bad examples. Our old sailing training ship "Gorch Fock" went into the yard for repairs a few years ago - cost estimate 10 million euros. Meanwhile the costs are over 100 million euros ... and for this money you can build 2 new school ships ... ab bigger scandal!
