Yes, another thread condemning degenerates in the US military. The excuses will fly again; it isn't pandemic- every army has its brutes- the guilty were prosecuted- it's the stress- the *********s deserved it- we were only killing future terrorists, etc., etc. The problem is that this is now so common that any ' decent ' image of the army is the preserve of recruiting sergeants and old-school patriots.
Yanqui, go home. You really are unwelcome. In fact, you are the terrorist and the problem.

Yup, and even with a courtroom confession we have yet to see any of the "Murder Troy Davis" crowd demand the execution of this unpatriotic, murderous thug. (Not that I advocate capital punishment under any circumstance...just sayin'.)

I prefer we attack the goals of the military generally, stemming from political policy rather than the crimes of a few individuals, no matter how heinous. The army as an institution will always provide a venue for people to commit such atrocities. The only thing pointing these out does is either highlight problems with the military or show the fact that evil is not specific to one side.

These pieces of human filth were murder children for the THRILL OF IT! Yet he only gets a handful of years in prison, when there is photographic evidence of him standing over the body, smiling away. What is wrong with this nation? Have we complete and utterly given up any ideal, moral, or humanity we had left?

If you want to understand how merciless war can be you should look at the history of the Pacific Theater of WWII. The Japanese and Marines were equally brutal. Here's a wonderful book on the subject...[ame="http://www.amazon.com/War-Without-Mercy-Power-Pacific/dp/0394751728"]Amazon.com: War Without Mercy: Race and Power in the Pacific War (9780075416524): John W. Every time I hear about this piece of garbage it makes me sick to my stomach. He is a disgrace to every woman and man what has ever put on the uniform.

He should have been executed, according to the Uniform Code of Military Justice. These are some of the reasons the US Military can and has imposed capital punishment in the past.

    94 - Mutiny or sedition
99 - Misbehavior before the enemy
    100 - Subordinate compelling surrender
101 - Improper use of countersign
    102 - Forcing a safeguard
    104 - Aiding the enemy
    106a - Espionage
110 - Improper hazarding of vessel
    118 - Murder
120 - Rape and carnal knowledge

Now having said that I know there could have been extenuating circumstances i.e (ptsd mental break, too many rotations) and if it can be diagnosed without doubt then he should spend the rest of his life in Leavenworth once his treatment is complete.

I served in the US Marine Corps and can not imagine ever doing that. Most of the time whereas it regarded civilian contact I was more worried about them shooting me if I let them get to close. But this case had none of that this was just vile and evil.

Morality in this country has been and will continue to be, problematic.

US scum targetting wedding parties in Pakistan, in addition to the massacres at Fallujah and Halabja, the atrocities at Bagram and Abu Ghraib....US war crimes are endemic. It's not merely a case of a few 'bad apples'.

The phrase "war crimes" is redundant. War is a crime.

Nah, its the same everywhere. Its the politicians fault.
The question is not if the people are brainwashed, its a question of how
As long as they can keep people fighting over left vs. right, it will continue to get worse

War is a horrific event for people to survive. When war ends for the country it continues for those who have survived it. These kinds of trophies have been collected by US serviceman during every war since the Spanish American wars, and will continue for every war. Why, because it is war and you need psychological defenses to balance out the environmental destruction of life with coping mechnisims. Those who engauge in these types of trophy hunting may suffer the longterm psychological effects of this long after the war, and it will affect them untill they die. The mind will seek it's own justice, and over time those who behave this way will suffer long after the judicial punishment and war is over.

regardless of who is president, he's an american soldier - and it is pretty clear that american soldiers have - over the last ten years, been guilty of serious war crimes on a number of occasions.

your country - regardless of who is president - needs to take a long hard look at itself.

you can't claim the moral high ground when events like this are being reported as often as they are - and the perpetrators only get a slap on the wrist.

you set the tone in vietnam with my lai - and you are still playing it the same way.

but your psoition now is shaky - so there is a lot more scrutiny - eventually you will encounter the same kind of repercussions as less powerful nations do when they commit war crimes.

    wake up.

America in its current form is through. So pleas to the conscience of a doomed empire fall on deaf ears.

Do you know where the greatest war crimes of the last twenty five years occurred? The Democratic Republic of Congo. But you and other Western leftists are silent because they are not Americans.

You had better hope that America breaks up into a series of successor states. If it doesn't do so it will be reborn with a very different form of social organization and a very bad attitude. In such an event, Chinese style rules will be the order of the day.

Right now the Infantry in Afganistan is undergoing major combat stress. Unlike Iraq, this is mountain fighting with a lot of fatigue and exposture to the elements, as well as more casualties from direct and indirect combat. These guys have spent years undergoing excessive combat stress, and trophy hunting goes on more than the American public would like to acknowlege. They are using this guy as an example to tune down the rising behavior of trophy hunting. These guys do what they need to do to survive in their environment. And this is not a prodictive behavior for combat, because it will affect all those that witness it, for life, if they survive this usless war.
