I saw this suggested last night, and that it would be accompanied by several allies also expelling Russians from their country in a coordinated effort to punish Putin. Dozens of the 60 are part of the delegation to the UN.

Glad to see this happening. It's time Putin faced consequences for using nerve agents on the soil of one of our allies. How will Putin respond?

My question is why does Russia need 60 diplomats in the USA? How much of a cover does a foreign spy need? Likely every one of them is watched around the clock.

How does expelling diplomats hurt Putin? Sending troops into Ukraine to assist them might be a better plan.

No. We've done enough "nation building" around the globe. See where that's gotten us?

Isolation from diplomacy with other countries.

We're not going into Ukraine, but we did finally agree to sell them weapons.

We're a big country with two coasts and we house the UN, would be my guess.

Twelve of them were at the UN, from what I have seen. The rest were in the consulate in Seattle. We've already expelled the ones in Maryland and somewhere else, maybe NY?

I'm sure they are being watched while they're here. :)

Now Russia can expel the US diplomats that aren't there since Trump hasn't appointed them...

    Not likely

The Deep State is too busy spying on trump to worry about russians spying on the US

Resources are likely stretched, yes.

I've never understood the purpose of embassies other than safe houses for visitors who run afoul of the law while in a foreign country. We have email, phones, and jets if a conversation needs to take place.

Please try to make an argument that is not intellectually deficient.

Its just shorthand for the entrenched big government pinheads who are unelected and try to run government from the shadows

Deep Staters aka washington swamp rats can be found in government and academia and the liberal news media

They work with not for docile and obedient members of congress - democrat and republican - and some even serve tours of duty as congressional staffers

No, it is shorthand for anyone in the government who criticizes and does not completely support Trump at all times.

No, it's the denial of an inarguably active campaign within the upper echelons of the Justice Department to obstruct and oppose the president that is intellectually deficient.

I thought the left wing talking point about Trump was that he was not going to punish or take any steps that would oppose the interests of Russia and Putin. This would seem to invalidate that claim.

Thanks for the show of solidarity Yanks. Unnecessary, not likely to change very much, but appreciated all the same.
    Nice one.

You may be right. I don't know what the left wing talking point about Trump is. I'm a moderate independent, so I don't check whatever the day's talking points might be for the left wing. I simply speak my own mind.

That said, Trump signed the paper, but he didn't make the announcement, just like he reluctantly signed the paper to implement the sanctions approved by Congress. Let's see if he says something about Putin and the Russians.

    It would seem to.

I think we'll just have to wait a while. Eventually we'll learn why Putin ordered Trump to do it.

Yes, a brilliant move by Putin to have Trump work against the best interests of Russia. What a deviously clever plan.

He’ll probably send home a batch of our personnel from Russia.

I regard the Russian government as a criminal regime, and I really wouldn’t mind going further. Recalling our ambassador and a travel ban to or from Russia would be fine with me.

    Irony to say the least.

It's time to end this partisan spectacle. We have 78 more nominees for various jobs who’ve made it through their committee hearings and are waiting for a vote on this floor," Sen. John Barrasso, R-Wyo., said on the floor of the Senate last week. "Most of these people have bipartisan support, they can be confirmed easily."

We completely agree with bringing our folks home and kicking the Russians out of this country. I think we might have to have a couple here because of the UN, but they could be closely monitored. They are obviously spying on us while here, but I assume we're doing the same there.

If we really want to make a statement, we need to seize Russian assets in the US. If we're going to hit them where it hurts, it's in the wallet.
