    Some good news to round up the week! So many individuals have proclaimed that renewables would never be able to make up a significant portion of our country’s energy needs. Renewables have increased over 400GWH in ten years behind that of natural gas while coal has fallen over 600GWH.

    Oh, and another lie from trump but that’s never news nor uncommon

    Natural gas is simply a better fuel. Cleaner and safer to extract. Trump is an idiot for backing coal.

    Renewable energy is nice, but it wouldn't exist without government subsidies. Very few people would buy solar panels were it not for the tax rebates, and very few companies would invest heavily in solar or wind without getting concessions from the government.

    Government subsidies coal and oil with tax credits as well. And solar tech just keeps getting better and better and with new, vertical wind turbines that don't kill so many birds coming on line and being less of an eye-sore, there is no reason not to go with renewables. And if we do end up going to war with Iran, that will interrupt oil transport and give one huge reason to go with more renewables.

    You might need to show your math

    According to your link:

    Year 2018
    Coal = 1,146,393

    Solar = 66,604
    Hydro = 291,774
    Renewable other than solar or hydro = 354,445

    66,604+291,774+354,445 = 712,773

    However, coal going down and renewables going up is a good thing. Coal is dying and will eventually die out, but it still has a bit of a life yet.

    Shush! You are not supposed to ask environmental fanatics practical questions along those lines. It's considered . . . rude.

    depends on where you live, some locales do not give/allow refunds for unused watts... only a moron would spend thousands to clear trees and sign a lease for 'panels'... they will never ever see a roi, it's that simple folks... all you're doing is paying for someone else's irresponsible use of electricity... the vast majority don't even have battery storage and they are not home during daylight hours... it's a f*ckin scam and libbies fall for it...

    For expensive clean-up when something goes wrong and storage of waste material.

    Don't know where you live, but I can do that, most people with families have that energy need.

    No... individuals claimed that until the cost was satisfactory, renewables wouldnt replace coal.

    Nobody said ban renewables. Lots of people said dont try to shove them down our throats until the technology was at a place where it economically made sense.

    You couldn't have run all those items when coal was being introduced for generating electricity, either. Takes awhile to build a grid - just because it isn't perfect (yet) doesn't mean it should be forgotten. Just remember how many wars have been fought over fossil fuels - then try to come up with one war that was fought over solar power or wind generation. It's a simple choice in the end.

    no worries, we'll have google/facetwat dump it all on mars... it's why we pay them to develop cheaper interplanetary flight... we need a new garbage dump for our waste

    As another poster said, renewables and gas require less and less maintenance, it can't lose.

    That isn’t true, many people have said that the US would be unable to support itself off of renewables because we have such a large land mass or spread out populations. The same is said about bringing our telecommunications up to modern standards and national healthcare.

    A few countries are almost completely on renewables only and it doesn’t seem to be an issue there. We are not there yet but soon. Probably within the next decade.

    Coal is proven to work. The other stuff is expensive and environmentalists hate it.

    Of course this is true until the infrastructure is in place to do so...

    And the infrastructure wont be in place until the costs make sense economically.

    And those costs wont make sense economically just because you regulate the **** out of coal to make it more expensive.

    Granted, the amount of wind turbines killing endangered birds and dams blocking off rivers will be enormous, but it is possible.

    Actually it IS a point. Although your response was just flamebait. Reducing your carbon footprint does NOT mean living like a caveman
