For the first time, the U.S. Treasury discussed a path for lifting the sanctions on Rusal, saying it would provide relief if Oleg Deripaska relinquished control.
US grows insolent. What do they think- that they can change the owners of the one of the biggest companies in Russia according to their wishes? EU on the other side is unhappy about the sanctions as they bring problems to the local business. I think it is time for more tight cooperation between EU and Russia and send all the demands for sanctions from the US to hell. Good solution would be to ban the products from the US: Apple phones, cars, etc.

Well Deripaska won't mind putting the Russian people first would he? After all Russia have been very good to him, he's living an extraordinary wealthy life, certainly this would be a small thing to do for Russia.

Why wouldn’t russia set an example and ban everything that is touched by evil american hand: processors, semiconductors, tools, heavy equipment, Boeing, Apple products, Windows, Android, all versions of Linux, all internet browsers, entire internet, MS Office, SQL, cloud services and USD, just to name a few. After that it can live happily and proudly in 19th century, where today’s Russia actually belongs. That would sure make your uneducated face happy and full of jollies. Just don’t pee yourself in excitement.
    How is that for starters?

Yes Russia has been good for this Deripaska , hes used it for a cash cow, and probably has his money hidden in various" front", companies, or in anonymous bank accounts in that "cursed" west! He could give 2 if*** about the average Russians day to day difficulties!:).

You have no idea to which century Russia belongs. Maybe you have education in finance, but no idea about engineering and technologies so you have no idea what is done in Russia in that terms. You support american assshole government in their racket and blackmail of other countries, so you are the same assshole.

You have no idea about him. He invested a lot of money to Moscow State University where he came from, and supports young scientists at the beginning of their carrier. And in any case this is not US who may decide which person should be a CEO of a Russian company.

It does not matter if he lives a good or bad life. It is an internal matter of a Russian company who has to run it. US blackmails in this case, so it will not work.

Well not really, it's personal... the US sanctions on Russian individuals made it so. Besides I heard all is fair in love and war

Deripaska is a business person, not the one who determines the politics of Russia so aiming at him is ridiculous.

And? There are many oligarchs in the US as well. Let's make sanctions on them or demand that they quit their business.

Vis you drinking sir? You've been around here long enough to know that a direct personal attack like that might get you a full point infraction :(

As to the OP, I find it interesting that as a government we are targeting a single individual so openly in regards to something of such import as sanctions. More than interesting actually. Its an anamoly and I'm going to look into it. On the surface it sounds like a great thing for Russia.. One mans pride vs substantial benefit? Id rather extract something ah mutually beneficial finance wise than this. It sounds petty

Well, yeah, there's nothing stopping Putinka &co., from applying any sanctions on those "individuals" you talk about? What's stopping?

Nothing stops. They discuss in the government now the law that restricts certain staff from the US.

At least the Russians aren't going hungry, can you say the same about Ukraine with its super rich oligarchs who stole everything, and had the young men die fighting without training and protection? Well they did well, they forced the Ukrainians to sell the farms cheaply, and now the agrarian corporations with its GMO's own 80% of Ukraine. Enjoy your future.

    But that's okay -

I disagree... I actually think it's a very shrewd tactic and more likely to work than other sanctions

Russia is not Washington and is not run by oligarchs, something the fools in Washington can't understand. But then again there is a lot of things the fools in Washington can't understand, or they wouldn't be sleepwalking into WWIII.

This will not work. US does not decide who run Russian companies. They can install their puppets somewhere else, but not in Russia. These can only cause hate against the US that it tries to interfere into business in Russia. What they are trying to do is simply called racket.

I think this is merely a reflection of the current system put in place by Putin, if you place a country in the hands of a small number of specific individuals then obviously those individuals become targets. I'm merely pointing out the logic, does not necessarily mean I approve or disapprove. To me this makes more sense than sanctions in general.
