US to relinquish remaining control of Internet! U.S. officials announced plans Friday to relinquish federal government control over the administration of the Internet, a move that pleased international critics but alarmed some business leaders and others who rely on the smooth functioning of the Web. Pressure to let go of the final vestiges of U.S. authority over the system of Web addresses and domain names that organize the Internet has been building for more than a decade and was supercharged by the backlash last year to revelations about National Security Agency surveillance. the rest of glorious peoples story
Why not? Before it's over Obama will turn control of the government of the United States over to the United Nations or worse still the new Soviet Union and Putin. All those freedoms and liberties our dead and maimed soldiers have fought for, during the last going on 250 years, will have been in vain. Way to go, Barack.
I take it you are a fan of faceless bureaucrats, accountable to no one and without restraint, running your life.
I didn't say I support what the fed have done here. I'm just surprised small-government conservatives aren't being more supportive of the fed eliminating some of its power.
I absolutely love the idea of a smaller, more responsive and more accountable government. That doesn't mean that any reduction at all to government is good or desirable.
After the world's tyrannies wreck the internet, doe that mean the US will have to start a brand new one?
http://dailycaller.com/2014/03/15/e...-weakens-cybersecurity-opens-door-to-web-tax/ UN control and taxation of the Internet? Is there no end to Hussein Obama’s perfidy?
But Al Gore is too busy now selling carbon credits and flying around in his jets to his multiple homes.
Great... this is the same UN that had members like Syria, Saudi Arabia, Zimbabwe, etc on their "human rights counsil".. Obama is so incompetent...
Freedoms and liberties??? Haha, my friend the only thing that's guaranteed in this country is taxes and death. Otherwise there are no guarantees. Try not to forget that.
The internet is only useful because it doesn't really matter who's "in charge" of it. Due to encryption, any string of code could be any other. We just don't use this to our advantage in everyday life. All of this stuff about net neutrality and concerns over control is complete nonsense, imo. We want the internet to be regulated and "nice" - when the whole advantage of the internet is that that stuff doesn't mean (*)(*)(*)(*).

The internet is a lot like Bitcoin. It has no natural security. Everything is public. At the same time, your security is entirely in your own hands. Security and anonymity are what you make of them. Oh, and controlling DNS isn't the same as controlling the internet.
That idea has been getting tossed around for a while now: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/02/15/weekinreview/15markoff.html?_r=0
That doesn't really apply at all to this thread or Joker's suggestion. If anything, government control over DNS is more akin to what you posted.
ICANN control the top level domains, sort of like a phone book for where to look to send the call if someone dials your email address hardly controlling the internet, but places like GoDaddy do depend on them to know where to send things that are owned by another DNS company .
but nothing to improve Bush's reputation - - - Updated - - - ---- the below is not related to the above post ---- "Freedoms and liberties??? Haha, my friend the only thing that's guaranteed in this country is taxes and death. Otherwise there are no guarantees. Try not to forget that." yep, that quote by Benjamin Franklin still rings true today
If the government relinquishes control of the internet then the UN steps in and nothing says faceless unaccountable bureaucrats like the UN.
More about ICANN @ http://www.brookings.edu/blogs/tech...ann-shifting-responsibility-kerry?rssid=Blogs I read it but still am uncertain if I understand why so many are negative about the change.
That's the problem with 'fair'. It's only your version, and I don't find your version 'fair' at all. Carter was only better than Obama; no one else.
