Sawyer is thinking rationally instead if reacting irrationally.

I disagree. 50 people is too many.

When Kate Steinle was murdered by an illegal *******, most of us were outraged. Weren't you? She was one woman. It didn't matter than she was only one woman. Something needed to be done.

And you're right. We need cars to travel - to work, to school, to the store, to family, whatever. If we no longer have access to transportation, this country would look very different, wouldn't it?

Did Stephen Paddock need his weapons?

That's a pretty interesting post. And it makes a point.

Illegal immigration and the people it let's into our society is indeed concerning. That, much like terrorism is about the tearing of the very fabric of our society. You say we need cars for transportation and I say we need guns for defense so you just made my point for me. Thank you. As far as Paddock goes, you don't outlaw cars because some people drive drunk and you don't outlaw guns because some people are bat **** crazy.

Except you didn't put anything in perspective.

Americans spend more time in their cars than with guns. MUCH more time. More Americans drive than own guns. Cars are a necessity for most Americans, guns are not. So the idea that 40,000 people died in car accidents vs 33,636 fire arm deaths actually shows that guns are MUCH more dangerous than cars. Statistically, you clearly don't understand statistics at all.

That's the BS stats by the lying media. The majority of gun deaths are suicides.

You people should be ashamed of yourselves for being part of the democrat agenda that USES a massacre to gain votes in the next election.

Interesting you bring up speed limits and that's something I've thought of myself. Remember "55 stay alive"? People bitched like hell about it even though it demonstrably saved lives and now we are up to 75 mph on lots of interstates and the same people that gladly drive 75 mph want magazine limits. Which do you think would save more lives?

"Back in 1984, it was estimated that the 55 mph speed limit saved up to 4,000 lives per year. One can reasonably extrapolate that, given the increase in the number of drivers on our highways during the past two decades, we could save even more lives today if we slowed down."

An iIlegal immigrant killing one woman is concerning, but a man killing 58 people in less than 11 minutes isn't?

I didn't make your point for you. I still don't know what your point is. Or what "defense" Stephen Paddock needed his guns for. What was the threat that 500 people who were over 1000 feet below him in an open air setting posing to Stephen Paddock?

sawyer, this is about Vegas, not immigration.

sawyer, listen to gdawag on stats, because you don't understand the relation of time and opportunity to injury and death.

stevew just gets overly emotionally, clearly unaware of the deeper meaning of guns and death.

We have national elections in this country every two years.

When is a good time to talk about the massacre?

Wrong on both counts. There's more guns than cars in America and you are with your guns every minute you are home with them and that doesn't even count all the people with CC licenses that have their guns in their cars.
"According to the Congressional Research Service, there are roughly twice as many guns per capita in the United States as there were in 1968: more than 300 million guns in all."

"253 million cars and trucks on U.S. roads; "

Because the people in Chicago don't seem to care about helping themselves. And I don't live there.

Why do you complain about the massacres in Chicago every weekend - and what are you doing to prevent them?

Next time a drunk driver runs a school bus full of children off the road would be a good time to talk about outlawing cars I guess huh.

Nobody will ever try to outlaw school buses. We need them to move our children to school.

You still haven't said why Stephen Paddock needed 45 guns in the suite he was renting on the 38th floor of the Mandalay Bay.

So when you have no answer, you just launch into a personal attack. Got it. Noted.

Your reading comprehension hasn't improved. I said outlaw cars because a drunk driver ran a school bus off the road. Slow down, take deep breaths, read and comprehend.

I didn't say there were MORE cars than guns. I said MORE Americans use cars than guns and do so more frequently. Most guns are concentrated in the hands of far fewer Americans than cars are. The average American owns 1.4 cars. It's impossible to have a similar measure for guns since cars are REQUIRED to be registered and guns are not. Given there are "super owners" who own a significant number of those 300 million guns (no set definition here but some us 17 guns or more to define it, do you own 17 cars...?) it's clear that there are MORE guns in the hands of FEWER people than with cars. That's statistically significant. You have to account for that.

Also, I drive a car three times on the average week day and twice on the weekend. I drive to work. Then I drive home. Then I go pickup the kiddos. That's three separate trips made it two different cars. I fire a gun maybe once a quarter. How often do you drive versus fire a gun? So the number of times you do something impacts the statistical safety of the object as well.

Also consider cars come with many required safety devices. Guns come with maybe one. Also significant.

So this tired comparison of cars to guns is just that. Tired. Also note that cars require registration so if you do something crazy and violent with one, we know who you are pretty much instantly these days. AND because they are dangerous and do harm to society, they require liability insurance to protect others they hurt. Unlike guns. In fact, guns enjoy PROTECTIONS from such harm that no other silly consumer good does. So basically you and your ilk are doing everything you can to make guns in American one of the most dangerous objects for sale.

YOU people should be ashamed of yourselves. You try to make gun control laws part of nearly every election in recent years as an emotional plea to voters, yet you KEEP LOSING ELECTIONS.

Laws don't stop anyone from killing ANYONE!
