It's a progressive meme - "conservatives are scared of AOC". It's a narrative that allows them to ignore her bad ideas and foolish words. Some even like to throw in the 'Latina' bit to make things seem extra nefarious.

Would you say that his calling Republicans "Pubes" is a sign of deep obsession? Fear? I mean, that looks like name-calling to me.

I'm just saying, I don't think you should use that line of thought as I rather doubt anyone here is fearful of either pol. About the only posters I know of that I would actually say ARE afraid and fearful would be ones saying a thread is unimportant and asking why anyone would care in a sad attempt to derail whatever thread is there due to fear of the unwelcome being discussed.

Yeah, you know you can go back hundreds - heck, thousands - of years to find kings and rulers who were mocked, right? Please tell me you don't think this was invented by the GOP, nor that you think Dems never did it - especially since the Dems were around a lot longer and you can certainly find evidence of Dems doing that to political opponents way back when. In any event, this practice was honed well before the Republic ever existed.

Point being, I don't take mockery to be a sign of fear or obsession. You don't, I don't - so I think VG is wrong in this case.
