While we're talking Old Virginny, here's another "progressive" measure in my home state

    https://www.yahoo.com/huffpost/virginia-set-to-legalize-marijuana-002934781.html

Never grew, bought, sold or used the product myself (no plans to either), but I've never understood why a naturally growing product is illegal...

Who's our local pot expert?? I cannot remember, but that's age, not pot...

Dear TCassa89, thank you for a well thought-through argument.
I feel we should also consider all those death row inmates who have regretted their mistake/their misstep and wished they could make up for it, be forgiven and receive another chance to redeem themselves. I'm sure, there is more than a handful in that category!

Or maybe they are holding prosecutors to a higher standard by not just handing out death sentences because that is what the prosecutor wanted or maybe they are more empathetic to the crazy as Big Pharma and other addictions have surely touched their household or the households of someone they know. Hard to say. I understand that back in the 80's my city rivaled Texas in its willingness to order up a zap zap. I cannot recall they last time they imposed the death penalty but it seems like I recall someone maybe 10 years ago getting it carried out for a murder they committed when I was a little one.

I am so sick about what happened to the Pettit family that I missed this story.

The older of the two bacteria who raped and burned and murdered the Pettit children and mom is undergoing sexual transistion treatment.

This is the kind of crap that gives the liberal philosophy a bad name. This opens up and makes the accusation that liberals love criminals and hate the innocent victims seem true. There are people who agree that inmates "deserve" to have us good people pay for sexual transition surgery.

Years ago when I was laid off from a major insurance company my wife went into organ failure and was on dialysis and we could not afford the extremely expensive COBRA insurance anymore after I cashed in all of my 401s and IRAs and drained our savings was working 3,part time jobs and just 2 or 3 mortgage payments away from living under a bridge I heard this "liberal " woman crying on a radio talk show about how badly criminals ( inmates she called them) were treated. She sounded as fif she had tears running down her cheeks as she whined that "inmates" get no fresh fruit they get canned fruit. Oh my rapists, murderers, pedophiles, sheep buggers have today canned fruit. What a tragedy.

We survived on basics off brand no frills food until that "socialist " program Social Security djsbility kicked in for my wife. Even with three jobs I was as I said 2-3 mortgage payments away from getting kicked out our house. That stupid liberal woman was crying for murderers. Rapists, pedophiles, and other Turds because the poor little bastards had to eat canned fruit.

It was not that many years after that that I stopped being a Democrat.
MCCain coming along put be over the fence.

The Republican now have that QANON Talking Turd Greene but the Democrats have woman like that Scum who cries that murderers, baby killers, pedophile rapists have to eat canned fruit............

Bravo, Ego Boy! For some reason I like Virginia... one reason would be Edgar Cayce lived there; Virginia Beach, I believe, is the location of his research center. Ever been there?

Can you show the threat of going to prison has stopped anyone from committing a crime? If so should we not have laws?

    Prisons perpetuate criminals.

Under God's Biblical law there were no prisons. Depending on the seriousness of the crime, an offender either gave the victim financial restitution, was quickly physically punished and returned to society or was executed.

Yes we have an appeals system to ferret out those cases. How many people who have been executed that we know for a fact were innocent.

I recently noted the woman of the federal death row who had befriend a young pregnant woman and then plotted in detail and then went and VISCOUSLY killed her, cutting her about to be born baby out of her WHILE SHE WAS ALIVE AND PRSUMED CONSCIOUS and then took the baby leaving the young mother to die. The police went to her home and found her holding the baby and she admitted she did.

Why should she not have been executed? Why should she have lived another day longer?

So you do want their family to suffer....that’s my point. They’re the only ones who suffer by executing the criminal. I have a brother who could have got the death penalty. He doesn’t care, but his son and our mom would have. Why should they suffer?

It is the ultimate punishment for the ultimate crime. And you are asserting that if we got rid of laws against murder no one would commit murder anymore because laws don't stop murder?

But do prove that NO ONE in our history has ever been stopped from killing someone else because their did not want to be caught an executed for doing so. Back up your claim.

And an execution is not murder, murder is a specific legal act.

Do you think we put people in prison to make their families suffer? If their families suffer it is THEIR, the murder, fault. I rob a bank and get caught should I not be legally sanctioned because my family might suffer. When did that even come into play in our system of justice?

And again what about the suffering of the family of the victim is now dead? What if the victim IS THE FAMILY?

When has it not been? It must be a CAPITAL murder to receive CAPITAL punishment. Those ARE the more extreme.

Individuals often are, but is that what we want to be as a society? Cool down, eh? Don't get angry with me just because there are some who deserve the death penalty. Like I said, when they can guarantee that all of those they execute are truly guilty, I may change my mind for extreme cases, but that isn't where we are yet.

I recommend a movie called The Life of David Gale.

Virginia Beach, or course.... Edgar Cayce research center? No.... not one of our bucket list vacation spots...

There are few corners of Va I've never been to, having lived here all but 4 years of my life (overseas as a youth)

There are millions of reasons to LOVE Virginia... we have everything you could want here...

    #7 according to these bozo's

Legally sanctioned yes, not killed. Government should not be in the business of killing its own citizens if it can be avoided. It serves no purpose.

I imagine it is pretty nice in Virginia, but have never lived there. A daughter of mine lived and worked in Arizona for a while and loved it!
Where overseas have you been? Germany perhaps?

Nonsense! They are still in prison which is nothing to celebrate, but they have a glimmer of hope of dying a natural death some day while cleaning the hallways.

Abolishing the death penalty is one of blm's demands. I guess they figured with the amount of murders they commit the DP would apply to them in spades.

But what's next? My guess is the left will want to end life sentences. And after that, people like AOC might visit a prison and melt down because there are people in cages.

There is NO reason to remove the DP option.
