It's Monday morning and Governor Ralph "Coonman" Northam has still refused to resign after a racist photo of him was exposed by Big League Politics.

As this story relates, Northam initially admitted he was in the photo and apologized for appearing in racist attire but in a bizarre and disastrous news conference he held on Saturday he changed his story, denying he was in the photo:

Perhaps even stranger, Northam asserted that he can still lead, even though he has little to no support in our Commonwealth and elsewhere.

Of course, many of us here in Virginia remember all too well when Candidate Northam and his supporters accused their opponents of being racists...

Yet - lo and behold - it's the Democrat we find dressed up as a Ku Klux Klansman.

    Surprise, surprise, surprise.

At this point one can only wonder how long Governor Ralph "Coonman" Northam can continue to kid himself that he can lead and serve as the face of the Commonwealth of Virginia and its citizens. The failure on the part of his fellow Democrats Tim Kaine and Mark Warner to immediately call for his resignation may have fueled his delusional intransigence. I thought he would have resigned by now and I've revised that to resigning by the end of the week but he has already proved me wrong once.

Fellow Virginian, how can you keep spreading those lies? Shame on you!

He says he's not in the picture and he didn't know about the picture... He's never assumed that nickname himself.

What does that leave you with?? Not much.... A horrible first pass statement....

The news conference was a nice change from what passes for news conferences in 2018/19.... A man who appears to tell the truth, even if it's not all positive.

Hope he sticks it out, as the news cycle changes, but I suspect he won't. If the Lt. Governor wasn't a Dem, he wouldn't remotely be considering leaving.

He is wonderful. "It wasn't me but that black shoe polish is sure hard to get off" defense is very democrat like.
At least his endorsement of killing babies minutes out of the womb is off the news cycle.
My suspicion is he is anxiously awaiting another in a long line of stupid Alexandria Occasional Cortex, or Omar quotes to move him off the front page.

Governor Coonman put on quite a show Saturday, didn't he? I caught a couple of minutes before my gag reflex started failing me.

It's an interesting point that you and others have made about surviving the news cycle. Perhaps he's counting on ABC, CBS, NBC, PBS, et al, to shove him down the Memory Hole so he can carry on as a relatively obscure embarrassment at the state and local level. It's certainly going to be more difficult for the national party to scream "Racist!" at all their opponents in 2020 when they've got a Klucker residing in our Capitol.

As stupid as his brown face revelation seemed, I think Governor Coonman was trying to play off being the clown in the Ku Klux Klan outfit.

I also think he's delusional enough to think he can survive the current news cycle and carry on as if nothing happened, despite the presence of the angry mobs outside the Capitol. The national LW MSM will be glad to shove him down the Memory Hole and get back to their TDS but the local media isn't going anywhere.

Nor will Governor Coonman's party affiliation and hypocrisy be forgotten. The sheet has really hit the fan this time.

However, some things are more important than the schadenfreude and partisan political gain to be made from this situation, so I hope we will all be relieved of the disgrace defiling our governor's mansion as soon as he can find a place to live back in Accomack. In fact, I'd be happier if he could find some place further away than the Eastern Shore, perhaps Mongolia or Antarctica.

He's lucky he's not a Republican. He might be held to a standard. I would call for his resignation. The Democrats would have a field day producing pics of Republicans hanging out with the guy and labeling them racist by association.

It might be interesting to compare his with other "klansmen" who've been there.. Ted Danson comes to mind The liberal folks always never seem to remember that folks might actually think the rules do apply to them and not just the little people....

All the Democrats are trying to get out there calling for his resignation. As this was done prior to holding office, that is all anyone can do, short of a recall. They cannot vote him out in the state house.

Northam is a worthless human being! He needs to go now! He will resign or Virginia will find a way to put him out of office.

Cannot believe people voted for this racist, baby killer wannabe!

Yes, they would, and Republicans should consider returning the favor.

    Get a load of this:

    That report is true.

It wasn't until after Coonman's disastrous news conference on Saturday afternoon that Kaine and Warner were finally able to bring themselves to call for his resignation.

    What took them so long???

LOL - The understatement of the century.

My wife used to watch Joan Rivers' Fashion Police. Man, she would have had a field day with THAT outfit...

I believe the person that would step in is black so naturally the democrat party are trying to oust Northam for something silly that happened 30 years ago. Remember, white men are the problem.

We can't even recall him, HB (I wrote my reps in the General Assembly about this Saturday). Recalls in Virginia go to our courts, not the people, and unless he broke the law he's untouchable.

There's no way to run that puke out of office - unless he resigns we're stuck with him.

I'm proud to say I voted for Ed Gillespie. I always considered Coonman a mediocrity as a public official but I had no idea he was such a mediocrity as a human being.

As for Virginia getting rid of him, we can't. Either he resigns or he remains governor.

I hate this type of targeting, no matter what ideology. I'm glad Steve King is showing some courage and standing strong and I hope Northam does too. The American people decide during the voting process...get the information out there if you want but demanding resignations are not proper process.

Then liberals must own this for 10 years to come! They can start by stopping their efforts to inappropriately label Trump as a racist!

As long as trump gets a pass for his racial discrimination, ***** grabbing and serial lying, Northam should stay put.

They won't because they lack charactor. But republicans better stand by our guys and stand apart from these manipulative attacks and let the voters take care of things. And stand apart from it in general. Stop being whimps and put trust in the American voter.

Please permit me to point out that the people didn't possess this information during the 2017 gubernatorial campaign and demanding resignation is the only process we have in Virginia. Voters can't hold a recall election and Governor Coonman hasn't committed a criminal, impeachable offense. Had we had this information in 2017 either Democrat Tom Perriello or Republican Ed Gillespie would be governor today.

It's an ugly and unfortunate situation, but Ralph Northam is an adult and he was an adult when he appeared in that photo. Part of being an adult is taking responsibility for your actions and accepting the consequences.

Had Northam owned up to what may have been a stupid, youthful indiscretion he may have received forgiveness, but on Saturday he compounded his error by lying to our faces and insulting our intelligence. When he did that he nuked all his bridges. Governor Coonman has to go...
