back up…… stabilize…. insure… the value of the USA dollar?

Ithaca, New York has one of the simplest and easily understood measuring instruments for economic activity imaginable.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ithaca_Hours

Is it theoretically possible for a group of people to accomplish a much greater organization of volunteerism through a database that would give North America a secondary economy that we could fall back on….. just in case?

I don't know about you……. but I got to like Mitt Romney very much during his 2012 campaign……. and he is one of the people who would be in an interesting position to organize something this big.

Would Mitt Romney as President in 2016 inspire Iran to scrap nuclear weapon plans?

That's a good question. But in many cases it's not work holding productivity back, but rather lack of access to capital, and excessive government regulations. There is no simple fix to this problem.

But WHY is it illegal to have a local currency?

Up here in Canada, you pay the same rate of income tax when you earn one thousand Calgary Dollars as if you had earned an extra one thousand Canadians dollars.

    http://calgarydollars.ca

Adopting a similar policy in the USA could both increase revenue for government……… plus decrease the burden on taxpayers by helping people who are primarily dependent on government assistance at this time.

FDR…and his advisors…. were in a very specific set of circumstances when they faced the application of the Worgl, Austria local money experiment spreading throughout America. The Communist Revolution in Russia was only about two decades old at the time so FDR's response to local currencies is totally understandable. ……..

    http://www.politicalforum.com/histo...ria-experiment-can-applied-america-again.html
Do you think that the Worgl, Austria experiment can be applied in America again?
It certainly seemed to work well back during the time of the Great Depression!

    http://www.whatcomwatch.org/php/WW_open.php?id=717
What do you think are the advantages to a local currency?

What are the dangers and drawbacks to them?

    Well said!

I am rather hoping that the most motivated volunteers in America and Canada will begin to compete with each other……. (hopefully in a more friendly manner than fans of our football, baseball and hockey teams do)?!

Once the competition begins….. youtube combined with some sort of "Volunteerism Hour" could increase volunteerism in general up from over twenty percent of the economy to perhaps 40 to 50 percent of our real productivity.

    http://www.motherjones.com/politics/2007/12/mormons-rescue

    http://www.politicalforum.com/relig...ations-should-print-their-own-currencies.html
Large churches in democratic nations should print their own currencies.

…(For the record…. I am not a Mormon…. I am a Messianic Gentile who believes in reincarnation and universal salvation….. so I really don't fit in very well with any particular denomination of Christianity…….. but over these past four decades I was more than impressed that the Latter Day Saints that I met….. made virtually no effort to attempt to change me once they found out that I attempted to observe the Jewish Sabbath and Holy Days and agreed with them about Rabbi Yeshua - Jesus being Messiah the Passover Lamb!)

It;s considered a form of treason, but you can get away with it, as long as it's not nationally circulated, if it's a small community intended for use only within a designated area iirc, like disney dollars or pig dollars at a strip club

    Good answer!

I have to admit that at the highest level perhaps this has to be digital……… has to have very open books….. the same level of income tax needs to be paid on these "volunteerism hours or dollars" as if national currency notes had been earned……………. but they do have the capability to back up or insure the national currency because putting a billion "volunteerism hours" into circulation cannot devalue the national currency.

A high percentage of what people tend to do volunteerism for…… tends to decrease the burden on the taxpayers to finance social programs.

But in theory…….. a Disney or Hollywood Volunteerism Hour……. could assist a significant percentage of humanity to look at ancient writings differently……. which could turn into a decrease in the need for defence spending and a significant increase in both volunteerism as well as more peaceful endeavours than is the case at this time?!

No nation on earth has a film industry that can be compared with the USA film industry!

Basically I am talking about an American , Canadian and Israeli usage of mega-film projects to divert humanity away from war…. .at the same time that some of the more peaceful ancient scriptures are financed and turned into reality…. in a more peaceful manner than has been visualized by many.

    http://www.politicalforum.com/relig...mageddon-could-bring-world-out-recession.html
Artistic Hollywood style "Armageddon" could bring world out of recession?!

…..A serious attempt to replicate "Armageddon" would create a minimum of two hundred million jobs in China, India, Russia and Mongolia alone....... not to mention the number of jobs this would generate in Israel and the surrounding nations.

    Revelation 9:16
"And the number of the army of the horsemen were two hundred thousand thousand: and I heard the number of them."

China now holds so many American dollars that any possible way to cooperate at a higher level seems to be worthy of consideration.

One of the "stages" is the Jerusalem Third Temple complex. Without conflict a film is boring and we all know that lots of conflict surrounds the idea of rebuilding the Third Temple. Two logical years for this to happen are 2030 (only fifteen years in the future) and also 2070.

    http://www.politicalforum.com/relig...ay-least-expensive-way-stabilize-climate.html

Rebuilding of Jerusalem Third Temple may be least expensive way to stabilize climate?

attempting to create an alternate currency can land you in prison, and its not just in the USA in fact we have some the lightest laws, here's an example from russia:

I do think a volunteer economy would work much better in rural areas among people who own decent plots of land than it could among people who live in the city and only have their services to trade.
    This is for several reasons.

First, a rural area has a smaller population so everyone knows each other, it is much easier to have reciprocity.

Second, people have land they can use to provide extra things of value on the side, all the economic activity is not through a formal job.
To put it a different way, people own the means of production, and can independently prepare, make, or grow things

Third, costs of living are usually much lower, so it is easier to take part in a less profitable informal economy. By contrast, in the city there are full time jobs but people are so busy working all the time to be able to afford to live there.

This is an exceptionally insightful comment on this type of proposal.

After getting myself excommunicated from two churches in less than two months back in 1991 I did a lot of church hopping.

During that time I read "The Cross and the Switchblade" by David Wilkerson. About five years ago I read "The Vision" by him........... this second book was about a massive vision of the future that he was given in 1973. Here is one paragraph from it that fits perfectly with your insights!

But....... if a charitable organization could use them to help more people to volunteer their time to visit with veterans in their dying days........ I think that all of us would agree that this would be one example of a truly worthy cause.

on what level though? you have to understand many people have tried this before, the liberty dollar almost landed the white supremacist ron paul in jail for treason, bitcoin, another alternative currency is being outlawed in one country after the other, and i know because i have plenty of idiot friends who invested in that crap. your theory suggests you have some kind of unreasonable paranoia against the money system and that its faults cant be corrected by a person like yourself. Am I right?

I actually feel a certain amount of guilt that as a Canadian, we were on the wrong side of truth, back during the time of the American Revolutionary War.

Is it historically accurate that monetary policy was central to American Revolution?

On the other side of this question though...... if dad3three is correct in the assertion that he makes here........ then the situation in the USA is perhaps significantly better in the USA than it has been here in Canada.

Volunteerism .... tends to take a very different form................ than the type of work that is accepted in the market economy.

Near death experiencer Dannion Brinkley has given me permission to test the waters to see if the support is there for him to mount a campaign for the office of President. I am not a university graduate..... I only have two years toward a business degree at St. Francis Xavier University.

But..... because my offer involves no money...... and because I have some pretty major connections with hundreds of near death experiencers.... I might just be able to get a core of enthusiastic supporters for Mr. Dannion Brinkley.

    http://www.politicalforum.com/polit...mpaign-gains-momentum-g-o-p-can-reformed.html
If Dannion Brinkley's campaign gains momentum.... the G.O.P. can be reformed!
In my opinion...… The Democrats and G. O. P. are too divided......… if they can find more common ground to cooperate on...… they would become somewhat more polite to each other...… and the stage would be set for significant progress.

There is a near death experiencer who is willing to campaign for the office of POTUS and if his campaign gains momentum...… and if his desire to team up with Donald Trump comes to pass........... the most bigoted members of the G. O. P. could well confront information that will transform how they view the LGBT community???!

....Because Dannion is himself a near death experiencer he can immediately understand the deep wisdom in the following statements by another near death experiencer. These few paragraphs have the potential to reform the most bigoted of G. O. P. voters....... which will greatly decrease the animosity that many Republicans and Democrats have for each other.

... but..... most of us would agree that the force...... that drove Dannion Brinkley to spend 26,000 hours, over the past 33 years.... visiting veterans in their last months, weeks, days and hours of life........ could be compared with "gold!"

i don't know if you want to hear my response to all of that as I'm an atheist, and this is an economic forum, but in regards to your original figures of volunteerism being 20% of the US economy the actual total is estimated at $173 billion not even 1%.

    http://www.independentsector.org/volunteer_time

but what makes you suspicious about the monetary system to begin with?

Good question! Mr. Walter Theriault from Digby Neck, N. S. passed me an article back in 1994...... and it radically altered my view of what we could actually accomplish.

    http://www.michaeljournal.org/lincolnkennedy.htm

I have came to believe that we have cooked the books.......... at the highest levels....... in order to make it look like we are hopelessly in debt..... so that we could decrease the expectations of workers and even break unions?!

A significant percentage of Atheists, Catholics, Jews and Muslims could all agree that finding financing for turning the deserts of the Islamic nations green through large scale desalination of ocean water would be a win - win - win - win scenario for all of us.

    The Sahara Forest Project and
The Sahara Solar Breeder Project and
Permaculture do demonstrate how that is a goal that we now have the technology to accomplish......… once we have the financing in place.
