But why truncate a small word like 'regards'? It's as weird as truncating 'with' to 'w/'? Did you give any more thought to my post of yesterday by the way?

Actually out of curiosity - are you a female? I'll bet you are. Don't reply if you'd rather not.

    Mate,
you had a chance for an intellectual exchange, you didn't take it.
    Fair enough.
What makes you think I am a sheila?

Because you're so unbelievably liberal. And you chickened out of that 'intellectual exchange', not me. But not to worry. Bygones!

    Mate,
*Liberals* is the name of a big Australian political party I don't want to be connected with. They are a disaster. They do everything to keep our nation behind.....
So I am caught between Labor and the Greens. Much better? I don't know, I have my hopes in Richard Di Natale, I think he is good and deserves my vote! I bet you knew that, but would that make me liberal?

I got 'Lib/Nat' almost on the dot.

Now if only I knew what that meant (cuz Im not in or from Australia)...

I suspect the common usage of 'Liberal' is polar opposite in Aus vs US.

I actually meant 'liberal' in the humanistic sense rather than politically driven. I still reckon you're a female though - especially knowing as I now do that Reg means regards!

    It is

“Liberal” here are conservative whereas Labor is left

But our right is actually left of the American centre which means I often have to use a telescope to find some members of this board!!

Early Australian politicians were quite socialist in thier outlook, in fact you could say our nation was founded on socialist principles

    https://ro.uow.edu.au/cgi/viewconte...com.au/&httpsredir=1&article=1048&context=alr

Even our cultural imperative of the “fair go” is more socialist than most other countries

Very close to mine. Of course, the questions are absurdly Progressive-centric and totally of the moment. Very little of it is reflective of liberal/conservative fundamentals. IOW, it's just a bit of nonsense :)

I had to answer with a lot of "I Dont Know" when it came to the candidates and parties, but I landed to the right of and one notch higher then ON.

Ummm One Nation is our far right party :p

For the Americans who would like to play

Liberals (lib/Nat) are the conservatives here - current leader Scott Morrison
Labor or ALP is your equivalent of democrats - current leader is Bill Shorten
Greens are a party that is about environmental protection - current leader Richard DiNatale
One Nation is our far right party - current leader and all round crackpot Pauline Hanson

We have some fringe parties such as Katter Australia Party known for large hats and narrow thinking
Clive Palmers United Australia party known for wingnut crackpotism of the kleptocracy kind

By way of contrast, and to demonstrate the outrageous bias of these compasses, I did one generated by a Conservative website and it had me as extreme Left. When I do these Lefty generated compasses, I'm almost always just left of Centre. They can't move me to the Right because my fundamentals throw their maths out :hippie:

I thought the results were inaccurate. I gave the quiz to a friend whose views were basically:

Climate change is real, do something moderate
    Turn back more boats
People from other cultures need to assimilate
    Cut taxes
    Reduce welfare, drug test them

And it spat out ALP. Very curious.

I think the issue with all of these sorts of tests is balancing the issues. Since there is no party that fit her views the quiz needs to decide between climate change and slashing immigration. This is a hard thing to do accurately.

I am voting One Nation as none of my favored parties are running in my electorate. Senate is a different story, I'll be voting Liberal Democrat and Shooters, Fishers and Farmers. Will preference libs 3rd last above ALP and Greens.

I wonder what you'd actually have to answer on that quiz to get recommended One Nation.

Liberals are like blue dog Democrats. Basically center left in the US system. Nationals are a center right party that represent rural issues, though they have been heavily corrupted through the long running coalition with the Liberals.

I just did a test run where I consistently opposed immigration, trashed climate change and renewables, demanded tax breaks for the rich, pro-Adani, pro-coal seam gas, immigranta cannot assimilate, etc.

    It recommended the Greens.

I'm starting to suspect this is a propaganda device.

I legitimately voted as right wing as I possibly could, every answer I gave was diametrically opposed to the ALP let alone the Greens. Without exception.

Might be a plant to get people to vote left. I will withhold judgment thpough.

I love how it's all basically moral questions. "The government should do x."

They say Australia has more sheep than people. I sometimes wonder if there are any people, at all.
