The measure was passed on a 28-21 vote. Four Republicans crossed party lines and voted with majority Democrats for the measure. Three Democrats voted against it.

Any challenge to the bill can't be filed until after it is passed by the full Legislature and signed into law by Gregoire. Opponents then must turn in 120,577 signatures by June 6.

If opponents aren't able to collect enough signatures, gay and lesbian couples would be able to be wed starting in June. Otherwise, they would have to wait until the results of a November election.

They will get the signatures to challenge, I have no doubts about that. But I am not sure if my state has enough support to stop it come November.

The Federal Government will not allow gay marriage yet so this bill is pointless.

Are you and your sister adults?

Does she consent to the marriage?

If yes on both counts, then more power to you.

As usual Seattle and the coast runs the rest of the state. The leftists simply run Washington, to it's discredit.

Another little step forward! At least, it's a step in the right direction for equal rights!
    Good deal!

What homophobes don't seem to understand is that when you let government control marriage it isnt a "privilege" anymore. that makes it a right. so any two single consenting adults should be able to marry according to the government, or you have to make marriage a private practice. you cant have both,
