McConnell finished explaining why both sides should join in his proposal. And Schumer is now explaining the differences between the McConnell's rule package and those of the Clinton model that he repeatedly said would be followed here today.

McConnell appears to suggest that he will shut down the debate on any effort to amend the rules package.

The House Managers and the Trump Legal Team are now arguing against or in favor of the rules package proposal. Pat Cippllionne is currently arguing in favor.

As an initial matter, this is my first time hearing him speak and he does immediately present as someone who will be entertaining to watch - and we all know that is the most important issue for Trump.

I'm getting tired of the line "it would be the founders worse nightmare" and any line that invokes dead people's supposed opinions......

Also sorta unrelated but this smear Deroshwitz because he disagrees on abuse of power is funny to me just based on a few facts. In the impeachment of Bill Clinton the Republican held house introduced an article of abuse of power and guess what 81 republicans voted against that article.....

So am I. There are millions across the country watching this trial take place while they are at work.

And are you really trying to argue that Trump has not been officially impeached?

Schiff" Trump doesn't have a right to face his accuser because this isn't a trial "

Schiff " Imagine if you were in a trial and they only read the grand jury"

This is a transformer process akin to a Micheal Bay movie where this impeachment switches to a political process or a process like a criminal process whenever the need suits

In contrast, I think Schiff is using this speech as an opening argument. He is much more effective at speaking on camera than Cippllionne.

I'm going to assume that's why when that article was brought forward in the friend house during Clinton's it was voted down.

I listen in my office and what a Joke Schiff talking about a fair process. And BTW in the Clinton impeachment there was a vote on witnesses after the House managers presented their case. Three of the witness FROM THE INVESTIGATION AND IMPEACHMENT were deposed in private for a few select followups and clarification and select answers were played to the Senate.

It is an interesting rhetorical flourish. "The People all know that the Senate will acquit Trump because he has the votes...let's prove them wrong by holding an actual trial."

And speaking of the impacts of the problems:

JUST IN: Each side will get 24 hours over 3 days for opening arguments

From CNN's Ted Barrett, Phil Mattingly and Manu Raju

In a significant change that was quietly made to Sen. Mitch McConnell's resolution, there are now three days of opening arguments over 24 hours. The initial language had just two days. McConnell's office confirms they made the change.

These changes just occurred prior to the start of the trial. There are also changes to the evidence section – evidence will be admitted unless there is a vote in opposition to it.

There were Republican senators who had issues with McConnell’s resolution, according to sources familiar. These last minute changes were meant to address those issues.

Did any of those three witnesses testify before the House? No.

So that means the "Clinton Model" provides an example where Witnesses testified before the Senate despite not testifying before the House.
