Its too late for me. But is being wealthy all about money? If I walk into my home happy and in good health it is much better than walking into a mansion with gold fixtures and feeling sick and miserable. I know its kinda Corny but ain't it true?
I have a friend who at age 22 decided it would be better to stay living with her parents (working class parents, at that) to save money, even though she was on a fairly low income. She lived like a pauper and saved like a demon. With her first $10k saved she purchased an investment property in a regional area. Two years later she purchased another using the equity from the first. Two years after that she bought her third, and so on. She remained living with her parents until she'd bought her 4th property. She now owns about 30 properties, and is a multimillionaire. Personally, all we did was avoid spending on 'good times and luxuries' until we'd paid off all mortgages. Once we had no more debt, we were so used to living frugally that we simply continued. This allowed us to work less ... and we still save more than most people working longer hours and better paid jobs. We grow our own food, hold no insurances, use public healthcare and public education, do all our own building/maintenance etc, and go camping for holidays. We have no air - conditioning, dishwasher, or clothes dryer, etc, and use salvaged wood to heat in winter. We produce and store our own electricity via solar panels and battery bank. We ride our bikes where possible instead of driving. Our running costs are VERY low It's not how much you earn, but how much you spend.
