My great grandfather lost his arm in a cotton gin as a boy. My wife and I both have grandfathers who were farmers. Their kids picked cotton, worked for the railroads, raised cattle, and built their own houses. I'm pretty sure that they were white.

Of course minorities were taken advantage of, but not by everybody and minorities didn't build everything.
