Today was our first verified case as an older gentleman who got hauled out in an ambulance with fever, respiratory distress and chills five days ago and his test came back positive. Staff are discussing whether to quit or not. One had already got a doctor note on standby for a preexisting heart condition so she is not coming back. I sure hope we can keep enough in the kitchen to get meals out and have days off, but....

God speed and stay safe. I know we've been chirpy but still I care about ya.

Do you have anywhere else you could go for a month or so?
How many people in your unit?
    Have they tested you yet?

I am an employee. I help manage the kitchen and dietary services. i spend most of my time in the kitchen with some direct contact to serve snacks and food. I was tested about a month ago as part of a requirement to test all staff and residents. I gather now the facility is obliged to offer testing for 25% of its staff each month. I chose not to bother as its only a snapshot in time.

I have been in geriatric health care and retirement for over 30 years. I will be damned if I get scared off easily. I will be showing up as long as my employer provides adequate PEE and training to use it. They provide the safety equipment for the staff, I will provide my labor. But if they renege on their part of the deal, I won't hang around long. I am 58 years old with some borderline health issues. Its not a suicide mission either.

ya know, this post does not surprise me. You have always given off that 'decent guy' vibe buried deep inside some oppositional views. .

Not a good working environment for sure, but who’s going to take care of our most vulnerable?

Well, you’re now a frontline worker....I suspect there will be more cases.
