John Cleese: London is no longer English city

FAWLTY Towers legend John Cleese has come under fire after declaring: "London is no longer an English city."

The comic, 71, said that the mix of cultures had helped the capital win the 2012 Olympics.

But he added that it can be hard to find an English person and that the "parent culture has dissipated".

Cleese, who is performing in Sydney, was asked on Australian TV what he thought of last month's riots around the UK.

He replied: "I'm not sure what's going on in Britain. Let me say this, I don't know what's going on in London because London is no longer an English city.

"That's how they got the Olympics. They said, 'We're the most cosmopolitan city on Earth', but it doesn't feel English.

"I had a Californian friend come over two months ago, walk down the King's Road and say to me, 'Well, where are all the English people?'

"I love having different cultures around but when the parent culture kind of dissipates, you're left thinking, 'What's going on?' "

The Monty Python star's remarks prompted criticism from Mayor Boris Johnson, who said London's diversity should be "celebrated".

Labour's Ken Livingstone added: "To stay competitive London must be a global centre of business, culture and innovation, none of which can be achieved without people of all nations working and living here."

More than a quarter of London's population is from an ethnic minority, and there are 300 languages spoken.

This is no accident. This is the result of decades of radical progressive policy and rule. The UK people had better wake up quickly. I think Europeans generally are shaking off the stupor.

Congratulations, London. This successful multiculturalism comes as a result of conquering most of the world, enlisting the conquests in The Empire and bestowing British citizenship upon The Empire's citizens. Thus most of the world became British citizens, like it or not , and Mr Cleese has made his fortune out of emulating the atypical colonialist twazzock.

Amazing how many times conservatives warned liberals that if you try and include every culture coming in to your country instead of insisting yours is preserved this would happen and now even a screaming liberal like Cleese.

You reap what you sew Cleese. You have no one to blame but liberals like yourself.

Indeed immigration control has proven futile in the UK, and I don't see it getting better. The more countries our government bomb and invade, will inevitably push more immigrants in our direction, probably knowing the UK is one of the safest countries on Earth right now, being one of the leading imperialist nations, they'd come to live here seeking a better life, safe in the knowledge they'd be in the country doing the bombing and not receiving the bombs.

I'm a UK citizen and the views Cleese expressed are increasingly considered an anachronistic relic from a mythical bygone age much like the good man himself. These pre-historic dinosaurs like Cleese are fast becoming extinct and not before time. The only thing he ever did that was remotely funny was when he adopted his Basil Fawlty persona, a racist and bigoted fool that was clearly not quite the nemesis that he so often portrayed to his adoring British public - many of whom incidentally were the ethnic monorities he rather wished would return to an India under the Raj. I only wish that it were relics like him who would hop on a boat and never return thus leaving our wonderful multicultural society to the rest of us who value it.

You say that like it's a bad thing! That's something to be proud of and celebrate: remember the good and not the bad (in popular culture) and the present tends to be a happier place.

Spare us the didactic codswallop. Of course, multiculturalism is a positive evolutionary step, innit.

I believe everyone deserves to have a pleasant and long life as long as it's not at the detriment to others.

In the UK, the amount of jobless rises, thanks in part to the way the successive Labour and Tory parties have conducted themselves and how they have handled the British economy.

Yet, to the 2.5m Jobless currently in the UK, there claims to be up to 20,000 or more immigrants coming into Britain every year. This means that the chance for the already 2.5m Jobless to get themselves a job then decreases, this also means that although as I said, everyone in my view deserves a pleasant life, I am not a racist, yet in Britain it's become popular for businesses to set targets of achieving percentage of people of ethnic descent in their work force.

This is because in the UK, promotion for ethnic diversity and multiculturalism has been pushed down the public's throat for at least the last decade and half, and has now become a must for reputable companies so that public figures and human rights groups and the like can't accuse them of being racist.

This means the amount of available jobs to British born citizens further drops.

It's hard to discuss these issues without being called a nationalist or racist, but I'm aware as much as there's an extreme right, there's an extreme left, both equally wrong in many respects in my opinion, people of both apparent sides verbally attacking me for my views in various forums and in real life.

Yet for the poor of our nation will never be given a hope if we keep on caring for the poor of the world, when it's clearly out of our means, and when our nation keeps conducting itself in illegal wars and the like, killing many innocent people and done so for imperialistic gains. Our country needs a revolution, as I'm sure most of the world does too.

This is what happens when you don't enforce assimilation and America is on the same track as England and western Europe.

When you allow unlimited immigration and then nationally acquiesce to their cultures and traditions, you lose your identity as a nation.

In my personal life, I had grandparents who came here from "the old country." We practiced our family traditions and it's culture at home and we never tried to force the entire neighborhood into eating ravioli on Thanksgiving.
