What is a farrowing crate? What is prolapse?

Figure that out and then realize that if you eat meat from industrialized farms, you are contributing to this unethical and inhumane practice.

Vote with your grocery money. Ethical meat is more expensive, but when you realize what we are doing to these animals, you have to choose to not participate.

Eat less meat, and buy the good stuff. That's what I do.

I agree with this. For protein I only eat seafood, mostly sardines, clams and mussels. Unless I hunt and kill it myself. Then I know the animal lives the life it was supposed to, not enduring a lifetime of torture.

    Good.

Also, grass fed beef is the most vegan thing you can do.

I hope to find the time to start hunting one of these days. Not only is it the most quality source of meat, but the animal gets to live free until it is eaten.

    It doesn't have to be.

There is a movement towards holistic management systems that results in healthy animals that live in pasture their entire lives.

Thank you. I am actually about to graduate with my BS in environmental science, so this is my subject. It actually goes hand in hand with climate change, but people are still catching on to that.

I had buffalo once at a Native American gathering. It was very similar to beef, but it was in a pot of stew, so its hard to say.

I've had buffalo stew and burger. Both are excellent. I prefer it to beef.

If folks had to kill their own food it would be different.

I was a veggie for 7 years because of large scale farming techniques but bacon was my weakness.

We have a feral hog problem in Texas. It’s about time to get out the AR. The freezer is almost empty. Hogs are open season year round with no license required.

That's the best way to get your bacon! Wild meat always tastes better than commercial stuff anyway.

Wild meat has always tasted "gamey" to me, I prefer a dry aged porterhouse, medium rare on the grill.

But to each their own..... I'll never give up meat, unless forced to.

What does the movement consist of, exactly? It calls for a lot more farms with a lot more land dedicated to giving these large, hungry animals the space and food they need to live that way. In other words, it becomes a problem of economics and logistics.

I can't blame anyone for choosing to avoid factory-raised meats, though.

Yes. Wild pigs are the worst invasive species in North America. It is better if you set up a large trap with a feeder and a camera and trap the whole herd at once though. Don't let a single pig escape or they will never come back. They are actually pretty smart.

Yeah, that's why I decided to stick to seafood unless I hunt the meat myself. Even then you have to be careful though. The way certain species of fish are caught can be very damaging to the environment. Also, many fish, like salmon, are fed tons of sardines, leading to overfishing of Sardines. It is better just to eat the sardines directly, witch amount to far less sardines consumed than if you ate one salmon. Although I do love salmon....yum. I just have it very rarely. Also, eating shellfish like clams or mussels is amazing for the environment. The mussel farms act as natural filters for pollutants in the water, so by eating them you are contributing to cleaning the ocean waters while you get to eat a delicious meal, lol.

Look up regenerative agriculture, holistic management, adaptive multi-paddock management
