If they wanted to reduce the number of abortions they would not be focused PURELY on just one approach. Not only that, but they would notice that LOTS of people would like to see the number of abortions decrease, but are opposed to the methodology of laws against women. They could make GREATER headway by increasing their set of solutions rather than focusing exclusively on laws against women. Also, they would notice that Canada manages to have a lower abortion rate than the US, and THEY have NO laws against women!! In fact, they pay for abortions through their healthcare system! What happened is that the LAWS became the issue, not the abortions. The fight is over the LAWS.

The laws are not oriented to a public good. And, they take away bodily autonomy - a right that could not possibly be more justified. I believe they have found policy that causes women to choose abortion at a far lower rate. The point here is that the right wing doesn't even consider what causes women to believe they don't have another way forward.

Preventing innocent life from being terminated is certainly a public good. If there was a ban on elective abortion being performed, women could still do what they want to their body, just like now. Nothing would change. Well it obviously has nothing to do with there being no laws against women and abortions being paid for through their healthcare system -- but whatever Canada does, other countries with a higher abortion rate should perhaps consider it. Economic reasons is one. "Life is easier without a kid" is another. Both are illegitimate.

If a woman is raped or is a victim of incest in Texas, abortion is still available to those who have the money.
