I have never proposed that the color profile of the police force is the big deal. It may help with first impressions - it might give someone hope to see an officer of their own coplexion. But it doesn't change policy.

What I noticed is that a team of officers helped facilitate the murder of Floyd. I don't believe that was altered in some way by sking coplexion - either in terms of the liklihood of it happening or in terms of the perception of those being policed in that area.

We already know what Republicans recommend. It's been tried. And, it fails.

The fact that we have work to do does NOT mean we should quite and to back to what is already known to fail.

If you want to propose ideas that might work, go for it!

Debates fall into the same category as participation trophies. If someone LOSES it's somehow got to be comforted at the expense of the winner. Never ask for a conclusion, ask for compliance. And don't ever think a single female teacher knows a single thing about handling boys.

Would these minority police answer to themselves or submit to elected leadership even if it's white? The white cops in black cities can answer that one for themselves, with clear consciences.

It kills me that liberals are advocating racial segregation. Less than 100 years ago it was fought as the greatest evil.
I mean, I’m white and I don’t mind segregation because I don’t see how that would hurt me (assuming desegregation of blacks allows for desegregation of whites and black neighborhoods won’t act as safe haven). The biggest losers will be the blacks themselves if this happens - do they have enough doctors, nurses, accountants, lawyers, etc of their own race? The quality of these services will drop like a rock for these people because they’ll have to lower passing standards for students studying these programs just to fill the empty spots!

I'm neither a lawyer, nor a constitutional 'expert', but my understanding is that the President of the United States and the Congress, can declare 'Martial Law'.

Thus, perhaps very much like President Eisenhower did in Arkansas in 1957, the president can send in 'federalized' troops and do whatever he 'proclaims' needs to be done -- whether the people in Arkansas wanted it or not!

But, as we all know by now, Abraham Lincoln destroyed the 10th Amendment to the Constitution -- so today anything is 'fair game'....

U.S. Census projections state whites will be a minority by roughly 2050. Your point about trained professionals holds true for any racial group, if that group does wish to self-segregate. With blacks, however, Democrats have failed in educational funding or training, resulting in (as I mentioned) the bigotry of low expectations.

Ethnic self-grouping is no different for Michigan than anywhere else. That said, imagine it's 1870 and you're fresh off the boat in a country where you can't even speak the language. You go find those who can understand you. You go to your own and it's that way since time began.

Is self-segregation bad? Ask the second and third generations of immigrants who grew up with our language and maybe some of our customs (if not most). When you enter their shops, they will understand what you say. That beats 1850 New York any day.

In black-dominant Detroit, the prosperous Mexicantown district has resisted the vagaries of Michigan economics. It's self-segregated, but no different than 80 years ago when Detroit had a Black Bottom area (yeah, THAT "Black Bottom GIrl") until they bulldozed it for a highway.

I take the moral from that to be, Mexicantown had too vibrant an economy to merit that treatment. If blacks OR ANY OTHER GROUP want better treatment, it starts by getting off the couch.
