Could it be more than just people misremebering?

For those who have no idea what I am talking about it's the idea that something you remember turn's out to be false but you have a defined memory of this event/thing being different than what reality currently is.

Like if you remember there being 4 or 5 people in the car where JFK was shot but there's now 6 and history claim's it's always been that way. I know a crap load of people that wrote a ton of threads on Reddit about how Hillary was really always spelled Hilary and it bugged the living daylight's out of me just due to the huge number of repeat threads on it. It then changed on wiki, Google the books and what not back to Hillary and then they all yet again wrote threads on it but not as many.

For those who read the Bible there are a number of changes claimed there as well. A link to a youtuber that is really into it:

    https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCz7OMKe4XKTvSqvCxQKhuvw/videos

Oh and I am sure you have all heard of the false killer whale at sea world. There are also some more odd ones like this: https://www.reddit.com/r/MandelaEff...lin_wall_up_what_year_map_of_former_west_and/

It's also supported partly by this youtube video:

I thought it was a load of BS when I first heard of it, but there are a good number of what could be called changes from what I remember that it's hard to ignore but that's just me.

Many theory's have been put forward, most logical people stick to it being bad memory. Some like me don't feel convinced that this is the case, but aren't going to claim to know why this is going on. People have thrown in stuff ranging from many world theory to time travel and then it can get really weird.

Why does it have to be one explanation?

That's what's always bothered me about a lot of theories. That there has to be "The One" answer for something. Let's take "Beam me up Scotty" as an example. Someone misheard the line and quoted it. It gets repeated over and over until it becomes part of popular culture. After a while of hearing "Beam me up Scotty"...people reinforce the belief that the line was said at some point by Kirk. Self-reinforcing, false memory.

We do that to ourselves all the time. We can often tell an amusing anecdote so often and so well that we start believing it actually happened to ourselves. Heck there's one I've been telling about a friend's cat that my wife is convinced that it was *our* cat.

    That's one explanation.

There are however other examples that aren't as easily explained. Those may have different explanations.

I didn't say there was just one explanation, but I also don't think that all of them can be explained by false memory.

It's kind of like if tomorrow all the history books and official records said there wasn't a holocaust where no one could find records of the event happening. There are still so many eye witness accounts that ruling it collective false memory would be foolish.

If I was the only one with very specific false details about the same thing I could easily rule it as just a by product of false memory but I have talked to other people that have actually lived though things that now are officially false/never happened and they aren't crack pots or insane.

I really do get why it is hard to be open to something other than it being a false memory as I made fun of this at first when seeing just being quotes and logo's. But history stuff like how many people were in the car when JFK was shot and where nations/city's are on the map is quite the leap.

Didn't mean to imply that you were the one doing it...that was just a comment on a trend in thinking of late. That there must be one "smoking gun" reason for something. Like how everyone is looking for that one specific reason why some people are homosexual or are transgendered when there may be many.

National Capitals are an easy one to explain. There are many countries where their capitol city is overshadowed by other, more popular cities. Everyone thinks that Sidney or Melbourne is the capital of Australia when it's actually Canberra. Either one are more popularly known than Canberra. Same for Switzerland. People tend to think Zürich or Geneva when it's the rather unassuming city of Bern.

JFK...If you were asking the people who were around at the time and actually witnessed the tragedy (either first hand or on TV)...I could blame that on the shock of the incident. This is why police ask as many witnesses of something since the brain in a state of shock tends to hyperfocus on one event (which is accurate) and will fill in the gaps with random **** to try to make sense of it all.

But there are the people who aren't in shock when they see it since they're seeing it in documentaries, and his death is a matter if history. Shock and Awe don't explain that. Something else may be involved in the Mandella Effect of that instance.

So false memories and our brains being what they are do explain a lot...but I do agree that somethings aren't explained away as easily.

It is people in denial of the fallibility of their memory.

Do you have any real examples equivalent to the holocaust one, involving an event simply not occurring that there are still many living first-hand witnesses to?

There were very few first-hand witnesses to the JFK shooting but lots of people who recall it from the same few pieces of film. Our memories will obviously be dominated by the tragic events and our brains will naturally assume two rows of seats rather than three in the event of fuzzy memories.

The position of Berlin is confused by general misunderstanding (and poor education) about the nature of the Berlin wall and the division of the country and city. People without clear information (or having forgotten the details) will naturally assume a single border and thus assume Berlin was somewhere on that border.

Neither examples are really false memory for a lot of people. They never really knew the answers and simply make wrong assumptions. After all, I never really thought about how many people were in JFKs car but would have probably guessed four prior to reading this thread.

A number of people from the city of Berlin have reported that it's like what I remember. Though I never went to the city I read a number of world war 2 books, own a few maps and this fact was just as clear as JFK was shot in his first term. My father and a number of people from the place told me this is how it was. I think it's beyond poor education and I am not saying that people that remember it always the way is currently has always been are wrong but this isn't a fuzzy memory for me or a number of others.

It was a hobby of mine to read world war 1 and 2 history with Germany and japan as the main point's. There are a number of fuzzy memories but where Berlin was isn't one of them in relation to the west/east Germany line. It doesn't even make sense to me even after reading a whole lot about it. It feel's like reading that JFK was shot in Russia instead of the United states in his 2nd term, that is how alien this Berlin air lift and location is to me.

As for your question about first hand in person account's, I can't currently think of any that have a very high number just like the holocaust where people are both still alive and can report what they remember while the event has changed though a reported Mandela Effect. A high number of people remember Japan being more to the south including myself, but I haven't heard of anyone from the place saying that. Then again that's because I don't hear from the Japanese on much of anything due to most of them not posting to English speaking forums. That and honestly most people wouldn't want to report a change like that unless it was really super important and even then if all the physical proof was gone and "never" existed it would be a hard thing to admit. I know if I thought for sure there were 51 states I would be ashamed to claim it really was that way officially at any point in time.

I don't expect a person to think it's really going on until they look into it themselves and then make there own choice on it. I am just kind of shocked people aren't more open to this idea with how quantum mechanics work.

Is you misspelling "misremembering" as "misremebering" an example of the Mandela Effect.
